In the market for a new camera, my 7 MP Olympus is acting up and I lost my camera case Friday night at Izod Center (left it behind I think).  I wonder if there are new cameras with the features I like (uses regular batteries, has a REAL viewfinder and optical zoom) still out there. Looking for a point and shoot plus camera not a DSLR. Suggestions welcomed.

Check out the Canon S90/S100. Regular batteries will be a problem. The Lithium ions are much better now anyway.

I have a Canon S95, which I like a lot, but it does not take regular batteries. It is not super quick if you need 'action' shots, but it isn't super slow either. Good luck to you.

I have a Canon G12 point and shoot that has as many features as my old Minolta X700 SLR film camera. Love it to death. Rechargeable batteries and you can get as many as 1000 shots before you need a new charge...excellent pix. I'm moaning with joy over the great ski pix I'm getting with it now. Transports easily, can fit into a purse, tough little camera. Probably top of the line for point and shoot. Real viewfinder.

Cannon seems to be the winner where I've asked. Interesting.

And I'd consider rechargables, I just like the fact that AA batteries are everywhere in an emergency.

Chalk up another vote for Canon. I have a PowerShot A1100 IS that's 12MP. Got it dirt-cheap on Amazon--retail was around $130 at the time (coupla years ago) and I had some gift cards, so I think my out of pocket was maybe $80. It's the camera I've used to take all my Facebook pictures. It's a point and shoot with a few bells and whistles that hubby thinks are neat but which I rarely bother with (although the auto-focus feature is quite nice). When I started looking on Amazon for point/shoots, after I'd picked out the Canon hubby decided to amuse himself by looking for his own "perfect" camera (he used to work in a camera store, and got spoiled for what a "good" camera "should" be).

The camera he wanted was $1200.
