House?

Went to look at the 2 house I posted about.

The log house was a no go - the inside stairs are very very steep and it was too dangerous for Alan (and the basement was worse). It was very "yuppie" inside and would make a lovely vacation home for a couple without kids (or with much older ones).

But we did like the 139K house that I posted the outside photo of. Here's more and better photos:

There is some outside wood damage (but not unreasonable after 20 years in my opinion) and a little water mark inside. We put an offer in at 130K (with the assorted furnishings) and hope to hear soon. If this goes well, we could close in December :)

Ooh, what a cute house!

If you move there, would you and Mark be able to keep your jobs, or would you look for something else?

I just looked at the photos...love the living room, but you should watch out for lofts and cathedral ceilings -- in our experience (we've had two apartments with them), they are a bitch to heat/cool. Since heat rises, in our last apartment we found that the loft would get boiling hot while the downstairs was still chilly -- and our heating bills were astronomical, too. So even though I love the light and airy look of cathedral ceilings, I wouldn't move into another place that had them.

We talked to our friend who owns there - and his winter heating bills were very high. I think we'd have to see how much of the loft is open. The first house we liked had had the loft part turned into an enclosed second story so the ceiling wasn't high - it was an aframe chalet.
