Baby Boys Shoe Question

My son has 2 events to attend in June. He'll be 20 months.
I'm getting him the Easter outfit (short sleeved shirt, sweater vest, long pants (either navy or khaki) and the plaid shorts and argyle socks).
I have no idea what kind of shoes to get for him. The Gymboree suede bucks will look silly in June (and I don't like them). I'm not sure if sandals will look ok if he wears the shorts (we have a luncheon in a tent as one of the events, the other is a nighttime dinner). He'll need a size 6 or maybe a 7 by then (he's a 5.5 now, just got him a pair of size 6 sneakers for everyday).
Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to spend a lot on the shoes he may only wear once or twice.

i got nicolas a pair of black, faux leather, round toed lace up shoes. they look fancy schmancy. five bucks on sale. i'm sure they have something like that for bigger boys -- he's wearing a size five right now, too!

scary. when i was seven months preggers the doc got a great ultrasound of Nico's feet. 6 cm. a tennis ball is 7 cm diameter!

Personally, I think traditional B&W saddle shoes look adorable on little kids, with long pants or shorts. I should look and see if I have any in a 6 or 7.

Not sure one pair will work for both....

Jack's dressier shoes for summer have always been fisherman sandles. I wouldn't put socks on with the sandals though, or socks with shorts for that matter. For the Easter outfit, I'd go with something like the suede bucks, but from Payless so that you're only out $15 instead of $30 when he only wears them once. :)

actually, though I love dress shoes for boys and girls (and there's some great ideas on here) I've found that white leather crib shoes go with just about everything, esp. with boys. Plus, they can wear them every day.
