I'd suggest getting a book on basic fish care. I know that you're not supposed to put tap water directly into the fish tank without letting it stand a while to get rid of traces of chlorine or whatnot. And I know you're certainly not supposed to dump the whole box of food into the tank at once. But the rest, I don't know.
