I suppose you could include something in the ad to say, "I'll remove the ad within an hour of selling the item, so if the ad is still here the item is still for sale." A lot of people don't read, but that should help for the people who do.

As for spams, you can include a request like, "To help show that you're not a spammer, include the word 'keyboard' in your subject line."
