Ibuprofin?

I read/heard somewhere that the dosage on it, since it's non prescription, is less than what used to be prescribed and you can safely take more. It says on the bottle - take maxium 6 200 mg in 24 hours. Do you know what the amount is? It was the only thing that helped my hypothyroid headache (which comes and goes, hopefully once I'm on the synthroid I can get rid of it for a while.)

4 advil = maximum dosage, but be careful because it IS addictive in that quantity and it DOES affect your mood.
When my knee first gave out I had a doctor that told me to take up to 4 at a time and he didnt give me the warnings and I noticed dramatic mood changes (downer) over time.

Thanks. Hopefully this hypo headache will resolve soon when I'm on thyroid hormone.

I have prescription motrin for 800 mg. I take it for the heavy duty heachaches. I only take it once a day (as needed, of course).
I haven't noticed the mood effects, but Ive never taken it that often. It does make me a little drowsy.

I noticed it after months of use. I suspect once in a while it's not going to be an issue, but the doctor I had was basically prescribing this in lieue of getting me into a specialist where they later prescribed months of physical therapy and surgery to correct the damage.

Ugh. Treat the symptoms, not the problem, huh?

I believe you can take up to 2400 a day (because the largest pills are 800 and you can take three of them). Make sure to take with food or milk because they will chew through your stomach otherwise. Also if you take them for too long and then stop you can get a rebound headache.

In addition, prolonged use can cause permanent damage to the liver and kidneys. Definitely something to watch out for.
