Ahhh
It's Friday.
Ended up ordering a menorah from the Judaica shop in the next town over to be sent to the school. That way it would get there in time for Chanuka on Tuesday as I have no time to run all over for one. Ordered some chocolate from Wilbur Chocolate for a gift too (I wish they would have on-line ordering) - if you are ever in the the PA Dutch Country, visit their factory in Liditz (yes, they have samples!)

Ooooh...I will definitely have to do that and take the boys the next time I go up.

We had a good time visiting there this June, and hope to back again when Alan's older and perhaps take him to Hershey.

My kids love Hershey. They go to the big antique car show there with the ex and his folks.
Of course, Liam calls it "Hershey Kisses."

Also--I figured, heck, you'd know this one. We're getting some new decorations for the house for the holiday season. Dave's kind of Christian and I'm Unitarian in the "well, gee, I don't really know WHAT religion works for me" sense. I wanted to get a nativity set that Hannah could play with, mainly because I had one when I was a kid. But... well, I'm not Christian, really, and I'd like to get something from the Jewish tradition as well. Our fellowship does a great job of exposing the kids to a bunch of cultures in RE, but if I only have Christian stuff at home, that's probably going to be her focus, y'know? So do you have any thoughts? A dreidel? Maybe an electric menorah? We plan to get books and such talking about various holidays, too--just not tomorrow. ;)
Both are ok
I wouldn't do a lit candle menorah. My mom had a bad experience setting a kitchen curtain on fire with one :(
Re: Both are ok
I'm going to get in touch with a Hillel group at the local university to see if they can recommend where to get one, as Newark's just about guaranteed to have a bigger Jewish population than Elkton has. ;) I'm also going to ask them about books about Judaism for the toddler/preschool set, but if you've got any recommendations, I'd love to hear them. :)
Re: Both are ok
I ordered my electric menorah from the judiaca shop in a nearby town because it was so close to chanuka and it would be fast to ship. It's there now, I actually have to find them instructions on how to light it - right to left, but the lights (candles) for each day are lit left to right. The top one's always lit.
www.jewishsource.com is a good starting point.
