Scary article about Gymboree addiction

http://money.cnn.com/2005/07/20/pf/shopper_0508/index.htm

Not me. Not even close. And fortunately Mark didn't see the article - he complains about stuff more than money (I pay my bills).

Similar thing...

The other day the local radio station had people call in to tell about what they have to hide from their spouses. One woman called and said that she had to hide her Louis Vitton (I know that's spelled wrong) purchases from her husband and she went so far as to lie to him and tell him she bought one on ebay for like $45 when in reality she'd spent like $1200. And that wasn't a one time occurence, Robert and I were both stupified. He told me he'd kill me if I spent that much on a purse, I told him I'd kill me for it.

I do hide some of the stuff I buy for Alan, because Mark complains about stuff (meanwhile he tends to overbuy food...makes us even) - but both of us spend on sale/clearance/special stuff - no way would I spend 1200.00 for a purse (I abuse them anyway).

I just bought a new purse for $17, on sale at sears. I looked at it at least three times before I bought it. I had the hardest time paying for something I could just as easily make, Robert finally made me buy it.
Clearance is my weakness though, man if something is like 90% (like target sometimes does) I can't stay away from it. If I find something at one target I'll go to the three targets closest to us just to see how good the clearance is. It's very sad.

I've gotten great stuff at Target clearance.

Last January on the day of 90% off toys - I hit 3 targets. And I had the 10% charge discount reward card in hand!

Wow. I especially love the part where it says she's "cut down" to $150 a month, when they're $50,000 in debt.

Scary stuff.

I never was a big gymboree fan. I have bought stuff from them over the years for my kids but never in any mass quanity. Normally I am not big on their styles or colors and don't like how some of the clothes wear on the child. But non the less they do have a great resale value on ebay.

WOW! (when they showed the little girl's closet, i was trying to see if i recognized any of the lines ;P)

First, how is there even opportunity to amass that kind of gymbo debt? I thought perhaps she was shopping for many but with just one child? And, she even hits the 7.99 clearance? I like gymbo but not that much.
Secondly, how are they ever going to get rid of that credit card debt? 5-7 years? I don't see how.

I dabbled in buying to resell on sale and wound up with 6 gymbucks to spend...but I used them to buy for both now and next spring (because there was very little long sleeved stuff) and 2 items for someone else who will pay me. Still I can't imagine the amount of stuff she bought!

Do you make any money off reselling? I tried selling a nwt swim suit that didn't fit and it went for 1/3 the original price and I probably bought it for half, so I lost a little. I sold some gently used stuff and that went better, since I got some use out of it.
I've bought ahead too. When N was first born, I remeber getting a 3 in 1 winter coat for 1/4 original price. I also bought a ton of sporting green & bon voyage on sale back then too. I'd buy ahead now, but the last time I checked, they didn't really have much. I think the inventory at the Gymbo near my house now is less than the one in my old neighborhood as I don't find as much as I used to. I'm not sure what tier either store is but I haven't been as impressed as I used to be.

That's just insane. I know some people who are always buying at Gymboree because they like the stuff and they get those GymBucks or whatever..it's a vicious circle that stuff..you have to buy 100 bux worth of stuff to redeem your bux or whatever..I've never been into a gymboree store..I only get some gymboree stuff second hand at garage sales and in resale shops sometimes..but I don't look for the label..I just look for what I like and occasionally it's a gymboree item.
