Packing with the TSA Rules these days

I’m not sure how to pack some stuff with the new rules.

Do any of these in my purse need to go into a plastic bag – lip balm, asthma inhaler, sanitizing gel, face powder, baby wipes in a plastic case (or should I just get a premaid travel package of wipes), antibacterial wipes? Is it ok to take hard candy or mints? Is fruit ok to bring?

Can I pack a juice box for Alan in his bag (he’s 4)? If I want to pack some hot wheel toys (metal) in his backpack is that ok?

Is it ok to use a ziploc bag for non liquids – I want to take my thyroid pills/asthma disc on the plane? But I have restatsis eye gel, should I put that in a bag and take it, or just check it in my toiletry bag? If you have a small amount of items, can you use a smaller zip loc bag (sandwich size)?

Is there any problem checking a car seat and stuffing jackets in with seat in its case?

No liquids at all are allowed on the airplane. So no juice. You MUST use the quart size bags and I recommend putting any and all toiletries/makeup in one--the rules do seem to vary (or at least the enforcement of them varies) so it's better to be safe and not lose stuff. I put make-up in one quart ziplock back and meds in another and that seemed to be fine.

You can totally bring liquids on the plane. I flew twice in the last two weeks, and both times I brought coffee and bottled waters onto the plane. You just can't take them through security.

I spend half my life on airplanes but I seem to have had a senior moment here. Yes it's the security screen that's the problem. Once you're past that point you can take pretty much anything you can buy in the airport onto the plane.

You can take juice under 3oz or you can buy juice in the airport. Also they'll serve it on the plane as part of the beverage service.

lip balm...ok w/o bag
asthma inhaler...in bag
sanitizing gel...under 3oz & in bag
face powder...ok w/o bag
baby wipes...ok w/o bag
hard candy...ok w/o bag
fruit...??? by the rules should be ok, but a jerk TSA will grief you

Juice...buy after security unless you have Rx for it. It's just easier that way. Besides, you need to buy yourself water. And it will give Alan something fun to do.

Hot Wheels...ok...no restriction...suggest you pack in easy to grab bag inside pack...just in case

Eye gel...in bag...make sure Rx is on label

You may use any size UP TO a quart. I've used gallon...most times TSA doesn't give a shit, once I got a griefer...lost some cosmetics

No issue with checking car seats or with stuffing the case with jackets. If you're traveling with a lot of stuff, remember that the car seat DOES NOT count toward you baggage allowance.

Any other questions, please let me know. You can e-mail me at my gmail addy for a fast response.

Wondering

I just want to bring enough little vials for my trip - I guess they could go in the plastic bag for liquids?

Fruit- depends on where you're flying. Technically, you can't bring any fruit into California. But, I don't think that's where you're flying. :)

Nope, NJ to Florida and back. Most likely to be eating oranges on the trip back :)
