CompUSA to close 11 of 12 NJ Stores


This is a surprise that they'd close all of them near us. CompUSA was one of my shopping favorites over the years. Back in the Dot Com days, we'd be going every Sunday to the Totowa store (as the Paramus ones were closed on Sundays) to get whatever was free after rebate that week. We even noticed some regular customers in the pre-opening crowd! And the day before Alan was born, Mark and I were there getting DVD's (or was it CD's?) that were free after rebate!

Hopefully there will be bargains to be had during the closing sale!

CompUSA is where we got our desktop. They're closing more than half of their stores. They usually can't compete on price, but their clearances/sales are excellent, and even though their prices aren't the best, CompUSA is one of the few stores I regard positively. I'm glad the one near me survived the axe.

The ones around us are going away too. If any in this area are staying, I don't know where they are.

I've mostly bought computers mail order or from a local build-to-order company, but they've been a good place for parts and accessories.

I checked out one of the closing sale stores, but they didn't have what I was mainly hoping to find, which was a mini-DV camera. We looked around a little more at other stuff, but didn't have a lot of time so we didn't end up getting anything. We'll probably look again soon though, since there's probably something irresistible there.
