Actually, the Meadowlands thing - while labeled a "State Fair" isn't REALLY the NJ State Fair. The actual State Fair - with all the animals, "roadside attractions", rides, food and 4H projects is THIS!!

We've tried to go the last few years and its a hoot. We love the racing/swimming pigs and the demolition derby! Sussex County fairgrounds is a good long hike into no where, but worth the trip... We won't go to the Meadowlands "pretender" heh!

I'd love to go to the big state fair - it falls at the same time as the musicfestival in Bethlehem, PA we always go to (Musikfest). I agree the Meadowlands fair is kind of eh, but on dollar night and it being 10 minutes away, it's worth the trip.

Alan loves the racing pigs and he'd love a demolition derby!

I'm not saying it isn't a great carnival! It just isn't the State Fair. If you can squeeze Sussex County in, it is HUGE and well worth the look. The website gives the schedule and will let you know when the demolition derby is. Its usually one evening early in the week...
