How to Avoid "Mom" Jeans

http://www.graspingforobjectivity.com/2009/03/mom-jeans-and-dreaded-long-butt.html

(I probably fail, although my newer jeans are probably closer to being right)

Okay, that's awesome.

Also, I need a mirror positioned such that I can see my butt in these jeans! ;)

This is hilarious and accurate! I am guilty of muffin top, but I always keep it covered!

I have total mom jeans but it's hard to find non mom jeans when you're shopping in the plus section. I guess I really need to lose some weight and buy some pants that make my butt look less like a gravity defying watermelon!

I've been wearing "mom jeans" since fourth grade. Couldn't wear hip-huggers as a teenager, never mind now.

I mean, this was interesting stuff to think about, but difficult to put into practice for somebody whose problems are more in the abdomen than in the butt.

I buy most of my jeans at the Gap so I'm definitely not worried about "mom butt" jeans.

Stealing.

I guess I'm a natural born mother. I think the low pocket ones look less good. To my eye, the women look poured into them.

Not that I wear jeans anyway.

I agree with you. I think the "ideal" jeans don't look so great. I *like* the way the Levi's and even the Lee jeans look. The other tips, though, about grandma jeans and uniform color jeans and, ack, elastic waist insets seem to hit the nail on the hit (although I've worn ALL that stuff at some time or another).

Oh yeah, uniform colour, granny, and elastic are no-nos.

Clearly, I fail on most counts but one: I hate "at the waist" pants of any kind, so all my jeans sit a little bit lower. However, I also have to say that I really don't care about the "mom jean" issue - the demands of fashion are so fleeting, I really cannot give a damn about what's "in" today. And I am, at least, far from "grandma pants" (which my mother has been into since long before grandchildren :-P ).

Awesome, I enjoyed reading that.

I am not even a mom, but I worry about the dreaded "mom jeans" look.
I have a couple of pair of incredible comfortable jean that are probably a fail. My newer ones are better.

If I can sit down in my jeans without popping a seam or gasping for breath, it's all good. Likewise, I prefer that they be able to stay up without a belt. (I've lost enough weight in the past decade that that's an actual issue with some older jeans.) I buy my jeans for my comfort, not to suit anybody else's fashion rules, especially if those rules say that if I don't trip over the legs, the legs aren't long enough. No thanks.
