Gay Rights

"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on LiveJournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this.Thanks.

What if I do believe in gay rights, but don't believe in reposting chain letters?

Sorry... not being snippy, just don't want to be viewed as a biggot for not posting it.

Sorry, not trying to be snippy, I just don't want to be viewed as a biggot for not posting this in my journal.

And, I didn't mean to post that annonymously before. I forgot to log in. :(

I agree with this. If I posted this, then I'll have to post one about women's rights, children's rights, domestic abuse victims, cancer survivors, rape victims, animal rights, and everything else. No one cause is more important than the others, and singling one out just because it's handily pre-written doesn't seem right.

I'm not comfortable posting it either, because I don't believe in "gay rights", I believe in "universal human rights" - for anyone to love who they love, regardless of gender, race or whatever.

I don't think I need to validate (or invalidate, whichever the case may be) my beliefs by posting something prewritten by someone else on my journal.

In fact, I find it a bit offensive that this message basically says that unless one posts this on their journal, they do not believe in someone's right to be who they are.

So, although I do believe in human rights and that no race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, etc., supercedes another, I will not be reposting what you have above in my journal.  If that automatically labels me as "not being for gay rights", then let the ignorant go in peace with that thought.

I can't believe the controversy this little post has generated. I basically posted the statement as you posted it, having read the quote and noting that it is somewhat ironic that we are more offended by two men holding hands rather than two men holding guns. I see it as a posting of my beliefs, and yes, some people are offended by the terminology 'gay rights'. Maybe the last statement was a loaded question that put too many people on the spot. It was a black or white issue, with no shades of gray. Either way, it did make people think.

On the spot for what? Because we didn't like the idea of 'if you don't post this, obviously you're a bigot'? Ah, sorry...I didn't post it, and I'm sure my lifemate (who happens to be the same sex I am) and I *are* 'for' gay rights. What I'm not for is being told if I *don't* post something in my journal (where it's quite obvious that yes, I am in a 'gay' relationship) I'm obviously *not* for those rights.

The only 'spot' it put me on was the one against 'my way or the highway'.
