FDA approves Thyrogen

This is how I was treated at Sloan Kettering for my thyroid cancer. It had been approved for diagnostic use at the time, not treatment. I hope I was one of the successes that led to its approval.

(I was scared about the lack of FDA approval at the time...but it was an effectiveness issue and not that the drug was unsafe.)

I would have opted for the drug also. If the choice is certain death from untreated thyroid cancer, or possible death from a new drug, I don't see where one has a lot to lose with trying the drug.

It wasn't necessarily death - but it would have been 6 weeks of feeling bad with no medicine, vs 2 shots to raise my thyroid hormone level so I could get "nuked" with radioactive iodine to destroy the bad cells. 2 shots wins every time in my opinion.
