Bad Mommy :(
Nov. 19th, 2003 10:33 amWe live in apartments that are convered to condos. We are on the bottom floor and mailboxes are on the middle floor. There is a shelf under the mailboxes to leave outgoing mail.
This morning I left Alan for a second to drop some outgoing mail off. As I ran back down, I heard the door slam (I think Alan closed it)! It was locked! Fortunately someone came by with cell phone and I called my mother in law who lives 15 mintues away with the keys. Meanwhile Alan was alone in the apartment, where he could get in TONS of trouble (we definitely have some not-child-safe stuff around partially due to the ongoing work on the place). He was crying a little off and on and I could hear him playing with his toys by the door (thank goodness he loves his intellitable). My mother in law finally came, and let me. Alan was basically fine - he'd pulled some shotglasses off a shelf and knocked over some picture frames on an end table, but didn't get into anything DANGEROUS. My MIL was very low key about it and not upset (she's like that...I love her).
So Alan and I went off to daycare a little late (I called my boss and sitter on the way) and all was well. Oddly enough the 11 AM meeting I was worried about today was cancelled as my co-worker is home with a sick daughter.
I thought about calling the police about the door, but would have been worried that social services would become involved and we'd get in trouble for the messy apartment :(
