Despite being up way too late last night, Alan woke up in a good mood. I think he wanted to be back at school (I wonder if he learned a day home watching TV with mommy and daddy can be BORING).

Wasn't too bad getting in this AM - the snow had been blown off my car for the most part and what wasn't off, slid right off when I used the scraper. And the icy stuff was hard enough to crunch over not slide on.

At work, at least as far as I can tell, the software is ready to go. yeah.

My feet hurt though. Last night I manged to trip on a ball and hurt my right foot (the ball just got under the arch of my food. Poor Alan, all he realizes is that I screamed at him, not that he left a ball on the floor and I tripped. Then I had to clean off the stuff on my scanner and my old digital camera hit the arch of my left foot. I think I'll live though.

Hopefully we can start getting Alan to bed earlier. Nickelodeon has now started running Full House at 8:30 PM after Sponge Bob, replacing back to back Sponge Bobs. Alan doesn't like Full House, so I can turn off the TV with no fuss. (I think they put on Full House earlier to fit on Growing Pains). Sad that their primetime line up is based on 20+ sitcoms. Even sadder, is the new show they will start "Me TV". Basically it is mash ups, videos etc by pre-teens and teens - viewer submitted. It doesn't sound good and seems very lazy by Nick. Then again I'm NOT their target audience either.
(I always remind my husband Nick is for Jr high kids.)

It may snow Sunday. Alan and I have off Monday. Maybe, maybe we can build a snowman and go sledding. Please?

Alan was super cranky this Am. But I got him to the sitter's ok and managed to get him to leave his Hot Wheel in the car (it was one of the ancient ones which could be dangerous...and actually the only one of those that is in good shape). On the way I managed to put on the radio on Q-104 not the ever playing Best Day Ever. Dear Prudence was on by the Beatles. He liked it (he likes mellow music).

Had my monthly 1 on 1 with my boss today which went well.

Got a bag of clothes for me from freecycle this AM also. Didn't open it yet, curious to see what it is. If it won't work for me (or MIL or SIL), I'll donate to a thrift shop.

It's been a long week at work for a 4 day week. The software update I am to test still hasn't been installed and working. And it seems any environment I need to work in (different versions of software) manages to get tied up or brought down to do stuff. Grr...

Woke up to a little wet snow on the ground. Dressed Alan only to have him complain the size 11 snow boots I bought him didn't fit. So I put on the size 12 pair I had. (The size 11 was free, the size 12 only 5.00, so nothing really wasted). Then we got out to the car, only to discover I couldn't find a scraper. Ended up using a plastic bag to clean with. And Alan had to listen to his "Best Day Ever" CD yet again. At least when I got to the bus it wasn't too late. Then when I went to play my cell phone game (Atomic Dove), I'd been locked out. Surprisingly customer service answered right away and reset my password. Whew.

At least another problem has been resolved. Target managed to fix my online access. Somehow they managed to think that a do not call acount for overdue notices means no online access during a change or conversion???

Visiting our friend with 1 year old (just turned 1) twins this weekend and getting rid of stuff finally. I put Alan's bed on eBay after it flopped on craigslist. Someone's watching it at least (user id is "lesliepear" if you want to look - I'm not shipping it though)

Back to (lack of) work.

Today is my 5th anniversary on my job. Longest I’ve ever had ANY job. To mark that occasion there is no mail today. (Well, not really – it’s because of President Ford. However, on my first anniversary with Wang (which was an accomplishment at the time), Prince Charles came to visit.), so I’ve had unusual anniversaries before.

When I walked through Times Square this AM, there was still lots of confetti around blowing and on the ground. I noticed it had been decorated with the Target logo as they paid for the confetti this year. I hate to tell Target, that their New Year’s Eve sponsorship didn’t make me go there, but 75% off Xmas did!

Been a busy few days with [personal profile] luscious_purple’s visit. Saturday we saw our friend’s band @ Ikea – I liked them, but a cranky tired Alan fell asleep. I got some useful stuff including a basket for magazines, so the kitchen table can be kept relatively clean. I also was able to retrieve Alan’s summer stuff from my MIL’s. I got a scare because I couldn’t find half of it at first, but before we left, I did find the missing tote.

Sunday we did a lot of cleaning before [personal profile] luscious_purple arrived. My MIL took Alan to my SIL’s for a while which helped. I also ran to Shoprite for some odds and ends as well as spending the last of my medical FSA money on non prescription stuff. I’ll be submitting some receipts tomorrow for more than my balance, but better too much than too little. (Medical FSA is use it or lose it).

The year got off to an amusing start yesterday. First of all when Alan got up, he went into the living room thinking WE were there and surprised our guest who didn’t mind. Secondly, we went to zap pancakes in the Panasonic microwave. It zizzed and then stopped working. I’m thinking the fuse blew, but it isn’t user friendly to replace it. Mark found a refurbished Sharp for 52.00 and free shipping on Amazon fortunately. So we are microwaveless for a few days.

We all hit Target after breakfast. First we stopped by White Castle (which is right around the corner from us) so we could get a photo for someone – and got Alan 1 burger. He liked it. Then we hit Target’s 75% off Xmas. Our Target piled most of the Xmas stuff in the rear corner (except the holiday packaged makeup, which had no sale sign STILL – but was 75% off!) I found cleaner, sausage, cheese and a camping survival kit. Most of the Xmas stuff I didn’t need and it was picked over. But if you needed a tree, Xmas stocking, or pooh xmas layette, they had it. I then got a bag for the car seat for our trip. [personal profile] luscious_purple found some bargains too – and a cool pet tote which I wish I’d had when I had Moxie and Inky.

We then wanted to go to Trader Joe’s but it was closed. We then went to The Fireplace, a local burger place that just celebrated 50 years in business. Good homemade fresh stuff including pickles!

After that we came home, and our guest went home. After attempting to nap with Alan, I packed up the holiday stuff. Unpacking goes pretty quickly and it’s nice to have the room back.

I have to start packing for our trip on Friday. I have to figure out how you do toiletries now with the new TSA rules on liquids. So many years of packing expertise now tossed out the window!

Took 2 Benadryl due to itching like crazy today - must be something in my new turtleneck, can't imagine what else (and it's a cotton holiday print from walmart). So now I'm sleepy.

Bus was late today. Just as we got on the ramp to the bus terminal traffic stopped. turns out there was a disabled truck jamming the outbound tunnel causing everything to be stuck. Sadly we couldn't get out and walk out the ramp, NJ transit announced several time to drivers no letting people out on ramps or the street. But we got unstuck fairly quickly.

Went to a nearby Judiacia shop at lunch. Alan kept talking about a driedel with food. Turns out the public school teacher had a plastic one with jelly beans in it. So I got him one there. Hope to get holiday decorations up tonight (been busy or tired).

Better wake up...

My employer gave everyone headphones so we can listen to future internal net broadcasts.
We have to return them if we leave of course.

The e-mail instructions said to test them on an audio or music file. So I am, I'm listening to the stream of the radio station upstairs :)

"Meet the new boss....same as the old boss!" I have that Who song lyric in my head today.

It's already 77 (WABC) degrees out.

Last night I came home to find Mark reading to Alan. Turns out Alan had been in time out during the day because he hit and kicked a child apparently over a toy. He decided no TV for Alan. We wonder if the older more physically violent TV he's seen affected him - we recently showed him old Popeye episodes.

We went swimming last night in the condo pool instead. Although Alan likes the water he doesn't want to learn to float. He also loves to ask the lifeguard if he can swim. The lifeguard was nice - I was having trouble getting Alan out of the water to go home so I told him the lifeguard would fish him out with the net (he likes when the lifeguard uses it to catch bugs) and he went along with it.

Hope I don't roast today.

Children growing up with technology

I keep trying to tell Alan we didn't have DVD's or kids TV 24/7 - but at 3.5 he doesn't get it. I've even told him his grandmother didn't even have TV growing up.

It's weird to think his late grandmother (died 2 years ago at 96) didn't even have radio growing up.
