Baby Stuff
Aug. 26th, 2002 08:35 amHaving been reminded by his mother, that he was 6 1/2 weeks early, my DH finally thought it was time to shop. We had a successful weekend:
Saturday - got a bath seat ( a mesh lounge chairlike thing) you can put in the sink or bathtub to hold a baby when its bath time. Our friends have it and it seems to work well for them. It comes from Walmart. Then we went to a local store (Children'sware and Babyware Center) and got a car seat with a 10% off sale (Evenflo Cozy Cary 3). They also had the Kolcraft Universal Car Seat carrier I anted, but they were out and have to get it from another store so we'll come back Tuesday night and get it. (We both agree the travel systems are extremly bulky!)
Sunday, we went to Ikea. We looked at the cribs there and found a really nice one for 129 - we shook it and it seemed sturdier than ANYTHING we' d tested in any of the stores -it barely wobbled. It converts to a toddler bed also. We also got a changing table. It looks like a low cabinet with doors and you can get a changing table top for it. The two pieces don't match (different lines, the crib is discontinued) t will look good together. I'm sure the changing table (minus the top) can be used for lots of storage after Alan outgrows it as a dresser. We saw some bedding there we liked, but they were out of it, and the new 2003 bedding has odd designs. They did have matresses there and an inflatable changing table pad - neither looked great. The high chairs look easy to clean (maybe we will get one later) and they also have some neat old-fashioned wooden toys. I think we'll be back. The nice thing is that the boxes for the crib, changing table and top all fit in my little hatchback Escort so we got them home with no problem.
I'm feeling a lot better about being ready for Alan now :) There's still a lot of little stuff to get, but DH will leave stuff like diapers, etc to me.
I'm not worried about putting the crib and changing table together, I've put lots of furniture together.
