This morning I’d just finished showering and dressing for work. Alan was in his crib watching Sesame Street and Mark is sleeping late as he works from home today. All of sudden I hear an alarm going off and then a knock on the door – a fireman was asking us to leave the building. I wake Mark, grab Alan, grab his shoes, my work ID, purse and keys and go outside with the other people in our building section. Firetrucks and police cars were there. I put on Alan’s shoes while we tried to figure out what was going on.
It appeared to be a short in a smoke detector, they let us go back in about 5 minutes later, and the condo maintenance guy headed off with a smoke detector in under his arm. Mark had grabbed some important data disks on the way out just in case. Alan stayed behind with Mark as Mark would be taking him to daycare. I’m glad we got back in as I’d forgotten Alan’s extra clothes on the rush to get out.
I headed off to work via the bus. As our bus entered the express bus lane to the Lincoln tunnel, I noticed a lot of police cars and a stopped NYC transit bus sitting in the entrance from the northbound direction. I saw a bomb sniffing dog on a leash also, and some official looking people sitting on the grass. I wonder what that was about. Perhaps someone realizes that commuter buses in NY are of interest to certain dangerous parties?
When I got off the subway, there were some fireman/EMTs gathered around a dazed looking homeless person on a bench.
When I got into the office, I saw HR person I don’t like. Funny, I’d been thinking about her today. She wasn’t smiling, but I didn’t say hello to her either.
Then, I found our team leader is out sick. We still have a group meeting with the interim manager at 2 though. I also found a big bug (to me) in a new software release :(
It’s a weird day.
