6 month thyca checkup
Oct. 18th, 2004 12:17 pmHad my appointment with Dr. Tuttle today.
When I got to Sloan Kettering, there was a sign to tell them if you had a cold as there is a common waiting area for several cancer doctors and you are with people having/had chemo and radiation. I told them I thought I had one, they didn't do anything but no one was there. Maybe they were all distracted because someone moved the coffee cart downstairs to a new spot :)
Anyway, the appointment went well. Dr. Tuttle looked over the blood work I had over the summer, was pleased to see no Thyroglobin on it. I asked about calcium (take 1200mg) and flu shot (nope, and other patients would get priority anyway). He felt my neck and felt no lumps (the only bump I have is a mole.)
I asked him about what he was talking about at the thyroid cancer conference this weekend - 1 session on anaplastic, one on medullary, one on future development on papillary and one general Q/A (he wasnt' sure). I also asked him about the status of thyrogen for treatment - as I recall he said genzyme is working on submitting the paperwork for spring approval for first time treatment (not for spread or mets).
I asked him about pregnancy - he said as long as my thyrogloblin came back ok, it was ok. (I may or may not have another child for other reasons, but wanted to clear it with him first). I will see him in 6 months and then we will schedule a scan. I can opt to be treated right away or schedule treatment after the scan (which I'd do if I had to have treatment because of childcare issues).
So I feel good, and hopefully the bloodwork will be ok :)
