Busy weekend for us.

Saturday I got up early and made chocolate chip cookie bars (Nestle tollhouse cookies in a pan) to take to Mark's uncle's holiday party. It's not easy making cookies when you can't eat them yet. (I have to take my synthroid and wait an hour before eating. I managed to time it just right so I could lick the bowl of the cookie dough - Alan didn't want any.)

We all got ready. Mark managed to leave chocolate covered peanuts out where Alan could get them - fortunately his sweater didn't get ruined. We picked up my MIL and drove the 2 1/2 hours to Connecticut. Alan slept most of the way. (he'd been up a little late the night before, that helped.)

We had a good time at the party. Most of my uncle's (Larry) S/O's (Elaine) family was there, including her daughter who has 6 kids (4 of hers, 2 of another family member she's adopted). Alan didn't play much with the kids (he's between her 2 youngest) but he loved to draw (Elaine set up some arts/craft stuff in her basement - the older kids had paint and crafts, I let Alan draw with pencils). He also ate a lot of different things - from chex mix to olives - he didn't go hungry. He got 2 presents from Larry and Elaine (one of those push button electric guitars and a big plastic truck). He loved them. But the guitar went home in the trunk as it didn't have an off button - and I'm sure it would have gone off 2 zillion times when we hit bumps etc. Alan slept, then we stoped at Stew Leonards on the way back. (Semi-famous grocery store, written up years ago as management style to emulate). I find them expensive, except for dairy (they've got their own farm). We got a few things and some food to eat. But there wasn't really anywhere to eat outside, so I didn't eat my salad and Alan didn't eat much. He fell back asleep on the way home. We got to NJ and stopped to get gas at the rest area on the Garden State Parkway. The line was slow (no self serve). We finally got filled and then the car wouldn't start. (I had this happen once before). I walked over to the garage part and got it jumped for 15.00. I've been begging Mark to get his car fixed because you should be able to stop and restart a car (I think the starters going - the car has 103K miles). Sigh.

We got home late and of course Alan woke up and we ended up crashing with him. We got up 7:30 AM alas. I went out to the store with Alan to get a few things (like coffee for me and donut for him). Then we came home. Mark crashed (trying to get Alan to crash). Finally after lunch and a bit of restlessness Alan and I took a nap. We were all up by 2:45. Then we managed to get a lot of tyding done. Our dining room table is almost empty now. I put the tv on nickelodeon - but Alan didn't like Unfabulous, so he was playing with the remote and managed to put on a classic concert on PBS. And left it - it was good to clean by.

Then our friend Dave came over. One of his coworkers got this talking gas station:
http://tinyurl.com/6h67t by mistake - she offered it to coworkers and Dave got it for Alan. He and I put it together and Alan liked it! Then the 4 of us went to Boston Market. Alan was hungry and devoured his dinner (turkey etc for 4). We'd gotten a card for a free kids meal, so I brought that home for his lunch today. Then we came home, I bathed Alan and did laundry. And Mark finally emptied the laundry basket, so I could use it. (I'd stuck his clothes in it, he'd never put them away - we each do our own clothes and have done so for years.) I'd even found all the snow boots for everyone for the bad weather predicted. I even found an extra scraper to leave out in the house - so there's one to scrape the car, to find the other scrapers :)

This AM we had ice from last night's storm. Mark came back in after he left - couldn't open the car door. (Driver's side won't open from outside as it's broken) I ended up going out with rubbing alcohol (couldn't find any deicer) and saving the day. Then when Alan and I left, I got in the car and couldn't open either of my doors from the inside for a bit. I couldn't drive as the passenger door was iced up and I could see. Finally I got that side open so I could scrape it. But we made it to daycare, I dropped Alan off, parked and got my bus (it was cold waiting for it).

Now off to another day.
