Eh.

Picked up Alan from daycare yesterday – two comments from his teacher (don’t bring him a bagel in the morning, he doesn’t eat it) and he needs help with learning to clean up. (We kind of knew the second one…sigh). Went to the library to pick up CD’s that came in. Tried to see if we had any good books on crafts, alas I was reminded that we have a small library – just a few books on one high shelf. I ordered some ones from interlibrary loan when we came home.

I also finally took Alan’s booster seat off his chair in the kitchen. The cushion will need a good stain removal underneath, but I think he’s happy to get up and down himself. He also actually ate dinner last night (SIL’s ziti). And he can now climb in and out of the bathtub by himself. But he still insists on flushing the toilet as I run the bathwater. (No fear of toilet flushing noise here). And last night Mark left after reading him stories and he fell asleep. Wow, after 5 days we are able to just put him to bed and not lie there for hours! Consistancy works! (I suspect we will nap with him on weekends, because we can, if it doesn’t mess him up – but after all he naps with the other kids in school.)

This morning I got him a corn muffin at the bagel store. Hopefully he’ll eat that along with the chocolate milk.

Alan seems to go through phases in the AM. Not happy to be dressed and diapered, but once I say lets go (even if I’m not ready) – he happily runs to the condo door and waits for me. And he’s good about in and out of the car and even talky in the car (this AM he saw a cat in a patch of grass as we passed.) He’s fine in and out of the bagel shop. (He’ll get his own chocolate milk from the case). But when I leave the center, he gets clingy and cries. I think this is because things changed this year.

His center has 4 “areas” – a toddler area gated off, a 3 year old area, an older 3-4 year old area (this is right in the front of the door, Alan usually catches a video here at the end of day) and a blocked off pre-k area with computers. Last year all of the early AM kids (pre 8:30) played in the front area until 8:30 when they went off to their respective classes.

This year it’s different – there are much fewer kids in the AM. (Last year there was a large group of 4-5 year olds). The pre-k children go to their area (I don’t see them) and there are only a few not in the pre-k room overall. This morning there was just one girl in Alan’s room. So I let him go into the toddler area where Justin and Nicholas (the staff calls him Chachi – he looks like a mini Scott Baio!) were along with his teacher from last year. That seemed to keep him happy – especially since Nicholas tossed a ball his direction.

Maybe I’ll bring this up at back to school night on the 20th – not sure they can get more kids but I wish there was something to make the transition easier for him.

Made it in late today – eh commute. But my boss’s boss surprised us with bagels. (My 8 months pregnant boss had taken a vacation day today and missed it.)
