We have an Escort, too! I'm sure that occasionally it would be nice to have a larger vehicle, but we're very happy with our Escort. We could always rent something bigger if we needed to, but so far we haven't. We only have one car, too, which makes us something of an oddity in our area. But we have a great bus system, which I take to and from campus, and to drop off Paul at his day care three days a week. This is all when we're in Illinois, not in Mayotte. Here we have no car and no bus sytem, but a sturdy, reliable stroller :-), and Paul is cared for in our home.
I think most families don't really *need* a large vehicle for daily use. Too bad more people don't opt for smaller cars, which are less dangerous on the road and consume less gas.
