Okay, here's where all you parents and I tend to differ. My first thought on reading this was something like, if this woman knew that she was having this exam in January, and if it was so important to her, why did she get pregnant right then -- couldn't she have waited? And if they wouldn't make a medical exemption for anyone else with a legitimate illness or whatever, why should she get special treatment? A lot of women nowadays seem to think that they are entitled to extra benefits just because they have kids, but those benefits often come at the expense of those who have not chosen to reproduce, and it isn't fair to the rest of us.
That said, I do think this particular woman's priorities are way out of whack, and that the law should have a blanket medical exemption for anyone who's hospitalized for whatever reason -- a make-up exam or a special proctor so they can take it in the hospital.
