Connecting a DVD to a VCR and Cablebox?

Maybe someone here can help - or at least show me where I can get help.
Our Daewood DVD/VCR broke again (don't buy one). I'm sending it back and want to hook up our spare DVD (an old reliable Apex) instead. But the Daewood had 2 coax (cable) connections - the Apex has one cox and one s-video out. The Apex was just hooked into the bedroom tv which had no cable box. I couldn't find anything in the Apex manual, the Time Warner Cable Site or the scientific American (maker of the cable box) site. We also have the setup wired into our stereo for stereo sound.
I'm pretty handy, but just don't know how to hook the new setup together.
