I picked up Moxie and Inky from the vet Saturday AM. Between them they lost 5 teeth and the dentals cost over 800.00. I had to give them oral pain medicine on Saturday and antibiotics orally 2x a day until the bottle is empty. The medicating isn't fun. But the cats are fine - Moxie was looking for canned food when we got home. He isn't usually fed in the AM, but I gave him a treat which he devoured. He will have to go back in 6 months as his fangs are starting to come loose and he may need the removed. He's a good cat though (although apparently Inky was the better patient). Last night he was near Alan (while I was holding Alan) and I showed Alan how to pet the cat and Alan grabbed his collar at one point and Moxie just sat and purred.
We also had a busy weekend. Saturday was Alan's 6 month checkup. Amazingly the office wasn't busy and we were in and out in a short time. The doctor went over childproofing/solid food briefly (gave us a list, but didn't seem to rigid). I mentioned giving Alan tofu as a possibility and the doctor mentioned setain (another soy thingie) also - I'll give him credit for that because not a lot of people have heard ot it (although I think of it as "satan"). Alan was 17.6 lbs and 26 1/4 inches - 50% on weight and 20 something on height. The doctor isn't concerned on the height. He was a in a good mood later in the day despite the 2 shots he got. He also had his first interesting solids Saturday - carrots and due to a well-intentioned friend - apples (I really didn't want 2 in one day...but he's had no harm from either so far). Tonight we'll try sweet potatoes.
We also got a futon for our 2nd bedroom to replace the ancient sofa bed I had prior to moving in with DH. Alan's crib is in the masterbedroom, DH sleeps in the 2nd bedroom, we tried both of us in the second bedroom so I could get a little more sleep and it sort of worked, but the sofa bed is awful. It would be really hard to move the crib into the second bedroom office as the computers are there and moving them would be a nightmare, so me sleeping in bedroom #2 to give Alan his own room is a short term solution. Hopefully we can get a house soon.
Sunday we went to visit a friend and eat breakfast out before our sci-fi club meeting. One of our friend's yorkies jumped into the baby basket and licked Alan's face several times. Alan didn't mind at all. The Yorkie was just another female that thinks Alan cute (we always get looks etc from mom's and little girls lately!). After brunch at Hometown Buffet, we went to Babies R'US (I wanted to nurse Alan, my DH is funny about that sometimes and I knew there was a nursing room there...) we got a stroller which we will give to the daycare provider now (as we have the car seat carrier) and switch later when we get new car seats and can't use the carrier+baby basket anymore. Alan was pretty good at the meeting and then we headed home.
It looks like next month we may finally get to Florida to visit my aunt/uncle and my late Dad's girlfriend. It will be an adventure, but they will love to see Alan.
Happy 1/2 birthday Alan (6 months today!)
