This way-ahead-of-the-season marketeering happens all over the place. The one summer I spent in Tucson, I saw the stores bring out the fall clothing lines and put the bathing suits on clearance right after the Fourth of July -- even though you could probably go swimming outdoors there until Halloween at least!
