Friday Five

1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?
No. I go by my first maiden last name now on legal stuff. I used to go by first maiden ex's last name. I kept it after the divorce as few people knew me by the first middle maiden combo - and KNEW I'd change it when I remarried. And so I did. I still get some junk mail with that name. My online name is derived from that name (it's shortened) and one of my Juno account's (my main mailing list account) is THAT name - Juno doesn't let you change account names, and as I'd had that account for 4 years at that point, I left it.
2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?
I'd ditch Leslie. I've never liked the "unisex" part of it. And kids twisted it into "Lesbee" which I hated. Also my dad called me "Les". If he wasn't my dad, I'd complain. Funny, after my dad died, my MIL started calling me that. Weird.
3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?) I am named for one of my great grandma Lena's (there was Joseph and Lena on BOTH sides - mom's and dad's). If I were a boy I would have been Lawrence. I think Leslie was popular in 1961-1963 from the singer Leslie Gore as I had 5-6 Leslie's in my HS class and the year behind me - and never so many since. I'm dealing now with some named Leslee which is weird.
4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?
My ex's name: Arthur. And someone at work named their daughter Tatum (ick). Can't think of any off hand with strong associations.
5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it?
Here's the analysis:
The name Leslie creates a very independent, practical, analytical nature with skillful business abilities. You desire freedom from restrictions and authority in order that you can pursue your own ambitions. Material and financial success are the focus of your interests, but sacrificing much for material ambition will result in a lack of harmony and balance in your personal life, particularly a lack of appreciation for social courtesies and things of a more inspirational nature. Since you often appear to be too unfeeling, factual, and calculating in your dealings with others, your personal happiness and fulfilment can suffer through difficulty in conveying your feminine qualities of love and affection.
I'm practical and material but not that ambitous. I don't think I'm as cold the analysis says. I guess I'm ok with business.
