As a former Staten Island resident (from 1991-1998), I used to take the ferry. Sometimes it would hit the sides of the dock when docking but never ever as horrific as yesterday's crash.

For anyone wanting to follow up on the Ferry crash, I suggest reading here -

It's the website of the Staten Island Advance (the boroughs own newspaper). Many times while living there, I'd learn things from that paper that other NY media ignored (they tend to ignore Staten Island a lot.)

Well neither Alan or I slept well last night. I took his temperature in the AM and it was 101 something. So I gave him tylenol. He seemed to feel better and I later got his temperature around 99.5. He ate bannana and some fruit/cereal for breakfast and took his whole 8 oz mid morning bottle and is napping now. (No daycare for him today or work for me either). I found out he'd been warm yesterday afternoon which explains his cranky act when we tried to give him ice cream cake - a piece is in the freezer for later use.)

I need a new thermometer. I HAD an old fashioned mercury one from the hospital (they said take it after he was born), but can only find the case. I have a digital rectal one, but think an ear one would be easier and he's old enough now at 1 year to use it.

Alan got 2 outfits from Ilin yesterday. Ironically he had already gotten THE exact outfit one size smaller. It's a denim jacket/pants/thermally shirt from sears with construction stuff on it. So I'll keep both of them - he can wear into the spring.

He also got an unexpected present yesterday. Last year I called a few of my parents friends when my dad died. Some wanted to know when Alan was born, so I sent announcements. One of them sent a card yesterday with a 50.00 TRU gift certificate. (Think I'll get Alan the baby leappad now). I'll have to get a photo of him to send with the thank you.

There's something going on at work (not just the sale). I couldn't find out much from my boss, but I gather he's on the outs right now and senior management is looking to start trouble. So I'll go job search after this. I still prefer NJ, but if I get unemployed (or close to it), I'll consider NYC. One day I'll escape the city.

I just saw a job posting for a "WINS" analyst in NYC.

I'm sure they don't mean someone who listens to 1010-WINS radio all day and takes notes :)

Water Main Break Floods Harlem River Drive
OCTOBER 15TH, 2003

A huge water main break in Harlem is causing a traffic nightmare along the Harlem River Drive.

The water level is as high as car roofs at Amsterdam Avenue and 179th Street following a water main break at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officials from the Office of Emergency Management are on the scene, and police are re-directing traffic.

Both the exit and entrance to the Harlem River Drive are closed at 179th Street. The northbound Harlem River Drive is now closed to the George Washington Bridge, and there is only one lane open on the westbound Cross Bronx Expressway into Manhattan.

Subway service in the area has not been affected.

This is all over the TV. Looks like a river and then some. This could have affected my commute since the GWB is closed - people could take the Lincoln Tunnel. Maybe it was a good thing Alan is ill.
