Weekend update
Oct. 4th, 2004 08:49 pmHaven't done one in a while.
Saturday AM we stayed home. My MIL came by and watched Alan as I tried to organize his summer/winter clothes. She ended up taking him to the store and I got the job done - everything sorted into outgrown, for now, and for next summer (sale stuff). Saturday night we went to a friends house. We stopped to pass by a house that intrigued us in the real estate section, but it turned out to be so cheap because it wasn't in a good area. At least we didn't waste time going to an open house to find this out!
Our friends recently got a Golden retriever mix. A sweet female dog named Pebbles. Alan was scared at first and wanted to go home. So our friends put her in the kitchen. After a while they let her out. Alan and Pebbles were running between the den and the living room and we aren't sure what happened (Alan fell or Pebbles knocked him). He fell and one of Pebbles claws scratched his neck as she went past. Didn't appear to be intentional. We treated the the scratch with Band Aid antiseptic wash (in our car from his last fall) and Pebbles was put back in the kitchen. Other than that we had a good time. Our friends Linda, Mike and Jeff came also. Alan and Jeff played.
Somehow while we were there Alan lost one of his 2 ikea cars (one was pink and one was blue). In his hand one minute, gone the next (too big to eat) - I was joking with our friend Rich (it was at his house), who is a big trek fan that it fell into a worm hole or alternate universe :)
Sunday we went to Big Truck Day at the Morris County Y (about 45 minutes from us). We'd found out about it at last week's festival in the area. For 5.00, kids and grownups could come in see lots of big truck and climb in them - they also had t-shirts, spin art, a bouncy gym, an inflated maze and a inflated slide all included. (Munchies were extra). Alan like to sit and drive various things like a winnebago, an atv, a school bus and a fire truck. They also had pony rides (he didn't like that) and a petting zoo (with a very mellow donkey). (The zoo animals looked well cared for). There were also 2 tree trimming trucks who gave people rides in the buckets (we thought Alan was too young). The Oscar Meyer weiner mobile was there also. You weren't supposed to go in it - but Alan squeeze under the rope by its door, so one of the staff retrieved him. Mark and Alan went down the inflatable slide together, Alan was a little scared to climb up (and I'd hurt my back that morning bending in the dishwasher so I didn't want to). Alan loved the bouncy, but was confused with the maze, he kept trying to exit the indoor!
We all had a great time - it wasn't advertised out of the area, but we will remember it for next year.
This AM he started school. I got us out and there by 7:30 - but as I parked, I realized I forgot the papers and $. So we had to go back home (5 minutes) and get them. Amazingly the good parking spot was still there (school is right across from the NYC bus stop). He did very well on his first day, he napped, played outside, ate, even saw a little tv (he was watching a blues clues video when I got him --- he was trying to work the vcr even.) (I had warned them to keep him away from the iMacs there - fortunately they are in the pre-k room, not the toddler room!) But his coat was gone - I think it went home with someone else by accident. So he has one coat left at his old sitters from Friday and one somewhere else...Glad I have a few extra coats/jackets! He was very hungry when we got home as he used to eat the sitters at 5. We got him to bed by 8:30 or so with little trouble.
He does climb out of his crib now. Partially because it is next to the master bedroom bed, partly because he's big. So we have to think about moving him into bedroom #2 and not using it as an office :( (If prices were lower, we'd move, but not yet).
