Grandmother clarification
Mar. 29th, 2005 12:40 pmMy grandmother just turned 96. Her health is failing (I think congestive heart failure). She came in a wheel chair, she didn't look good.
She's always been a crab, but it has been worse the last few months. We would have been able to get a sitter (my MIL or his ex-sitter). She'd been saying it's our choice to bring Alan or not. But she didn't want a scene either she would say.
I thought it would be nice to bring Alan as she may not have more birthdays. My cousin has paid for her last few birthday dinners, his decision - he's financially responsible for her since his father died and he's quite well off.
I think Alan picked up on our vibes as he was ok until we got to the restaurant which wasn't crowded at first. He didn't know some of the people there and my cousins not that well compaired to people he's sees weekly/monthly.
I did find the restaurant owner a bit rude, but we aren't likely to go back there in anycase - upscale NYC italian restaurants aren't our taste or nearby. Even if we went out without Alan, we'd probably wind up local without Alan.
I was upset about ripping up the gift card as I wasn't sure if I had the receipt. I do, so hopefully I can get the money back or get something there. She said to buy Alan a coat.
Mark and I are pretty upset with her at this point. Maybe Alan didn't belong in that kind of restaurant at 2.5 but it could have been handled better and our intent understood. I think she's getting really cranky at this point, sigh.
