Alan can recognize letters and will “read’ them from printed items as he recognizes them. I am not sure how to get him to the next step to put them into words. Does anyone have any ideas on how to teach him this? I forgot how I learned, it’s been so many years.

I just got into work today ahead of a big thunderstorm. I’d not brought an umbrella with me, so I’m glad I only had the last 2 blocks left when it started coming down heavier. I only got slightly wet.

I’m tired as usual. Yesterday was interesting. Mark was told when he picked up Alan from daycare, that he used the potty 2x. He’d never done it before there!

We went out to dinner last night. We went to a very old Italian restaurant/pizza place called the Lido. The specialty there is super thin crust pizza. Mark and I had been there a long time ago, but the restaurant was very smoky. Now that you can’t smoke in any restaurant in NJ, we figured we’d go again. Alan liked it. On the way back, we passed a newly opened Family Dollar store. Some stuff is a good buy there, but other stuff isn’t. The Baskin Robbins branded hard candy that we can get for 1.00 at Dollar Tree or .88 at Wal-Mart was 1.59 there!

We also got a few cheapie DVD’s there – Three Stooges cartoons, Popeye cartoons and a scenic train one. The scenic train one was surprisingly good and was a 2-sided DVD in a hard shell case – Alan loved it. But it was getting late and Mark was tied up with a family matter on the phone. I turned off the DVD and tried to get Alan undressed and on the potty. No luck with the potty. I’d just read to Alan and we were getting ready to fall asleep and Mark offered to Alan to watch the Popeye DVD. Alan did love it – I heard him laughing – but I wish Mark would understand that Alan needs an earlier bedtime. He doesn’t get to deal with grumpy Alan in the AM.

Alan has surprised me the last 2 days. Yesterday he said Morning, today he said Good Morning Mommy when he woke up. But no luck in getting him on the potty this AM either. We WILL keep trying this weekend – especially since we are stuck home in the AM awaiting the new air conditioner.
