Jul. 24th, 2006 11:16 amIt’s a nice sunny morning here. I plan to go to the Toys R Us in Times Square today to get some educational stuff on sale.
Kind of an eh weekend. Saturday we got the air conditioner in the bedroom – although they did irk us around a bit with saying they didn’t have it and then they did. We did go out to lunch for a bit, alas Alan only really wanted the desserts (cheesecake, ice cream) at the Chinese buffet (the one with fish). I wish he’d eat better. Later that night we went ot my MILs. Pointed out the baby gear (car seats, walker, strollers, baby sled) to be consigned at the consignment shop. I’ve decided not to save this stuff – my one friend has twins, and my other friend may have a baby after the car seats expire – and she too may have twins since she’s looking at egg donation and ivf. (In my little crowd, I seem to be the only one who didn’t have help – either fertility or adoption.) It was a little sad admitting that Alan will be an only.
Sunday we were to go to the beach, but the weather didn’t seem so great – we went out to our friend Linda’s to see her and her son (Alan’s friend). We stopped at the Tuesday Morning store on the way. I got 2 books for Alan (phonics and Miffy) and some cheesecake mix. Mark likes the store a lot, Alan’s so so – but since it has trains (Brio), he’ll check out the toys. Alan has a one-track mind for toys it seems (trains or Thomas!) They played together for a while then we went home. Alan was actually hungry and ate 3 pierogis. Mark put him to bed and he said a funny – Mark asked him where daddy’s money was and Alan said “in mommy’s pocket” – which prompted Mark to tease me about spending money. (I think Alan got it from me having Mark’s credit card in my pocket on 2 occasions this weekend).
No luck with the potty this weekend. Turns out when I asked his teacher – that he’ll go standing up – he’s afraid to sit. So we’ll try that at home. Must dig up the potty training video I have (although I ordered another DVD from the library).
This morning on my commute, I passed through Times Square, right past the MTV/Nickelodeon/Nick Jr/Viacom offices. People were outside protesting – they were protesting the cancellation of “Danny Phantom” on Nick! I like the cartoon, not my very favorite, but not my least favorite. I suspect it may be more teen than tweenish and therefore not doing as well as they like. But I like it better than the “replacement” on the way according to the Nick site – Mr. Meaty. I signed the petition they had, because I’m sure Alan would. I know there is one other cartoon that’s going away soon – All Grown Up, but I’m not crazy about that one either. In the 2 years or so we’ve watched Nick, it seems some cartoons just disappear (Teenage Robot, Rocket Power, the rock star dad one) and others are there forever – Sponge Bob, Fairly Odd Parents, Jimmy Neutron. I do wish they’d do less repeats on their Friday night movies – it seems the live action movies have been shown at least twice this summer and then multiple times each weekend!
Oh, I just got a call from RC2Corp, parent company of Learning Curve, maker of Thomas the Tank Engine toys. One of Alan’s Take Along Trains lost a wheel – really odd. So I e-mailed the higher ups (after not hearing from my first mail) and complained. A replacement is on the way, and they may want the broken one back for Q/A.
