Weekend Update
Mar. 12th, 2007 11:37 pm“Jane, you ignorant slut”…I wonder how many people reading this know where that quote comes from?
It was a relatively quiet weekend. Saturday AM, we all went to Target. Our total purchases were one plastic storage bin (for Alan’s clothes), 5 pack of Hot Wheels (for Alan). Nothing on clearance (a rarity!) Later we went to Shoprite and in the late afternoon we went to my SIL’s with my MIL. I had to change the cartridge on her printer and change a Brita filter on her faucet. (I’m the handy one in the family).
Sunday morning, my SIL called and her laptop had died. It was time, it had been her late SO’s and was about 7 years old running Windows 98. She needed one ASAP. But first DH and I did our taxes. Fun stuff with DH being self-employed and my working in NYC – but not as much of a nightmare as we’ve had before. The first year we did taxes together was the worst – the illegal copy of the tax software crashed in the middle and everything got lost. Ever since then we’ve properly purchased the software – but DH is always asking me to help with it (I don’t know more about taxes than he does, but I am good at figuring out software).
And Alan owes $69.00 in investment income (college fund). We’ll pay it, as I don’t think the IRS would take 69 Hot Wheels or 10 wooden Thomas trains as payment!
DH, Alan and I all took a ride later in the day to Circuit City. First we stopped at Big Lots and Dollar Tree and found a few good things including DH’s favorite Betzio’s Pizza. At Circuit City we got a good deal on an HP laptop.
When we got back our friends stopped by with their son after they’d gone to the Circus in the Meadowlands. Alan hadn’t seen Jeff in a few months but after a bit they were happily having fun with Hot Wheels. When they left we saw their new to them 2006 Toyota Corolla. About 2 weeks ago their 1998 one was totaled in an accident (no one seriously hurt), so they had to get a new one ASAP. This one is silver with just about all the features including wood grain trim. It should last them as long as the old one hopefully.
Jeff also took out the Thomas trains and after he left and a little coaxing from me, Alan did take them out and layout some nice track. I was so glad to see him doing that after a long break!
Alan was very hard to get to bed last night. He was overtired from lack of sleep and naps this weekend. I did manage to get him to sleep eventually. I also opened up the laptop to see if it needed to be charged which it didn’t. I wish I could get one for myself – it’s so light – DH says it’s as light as a (paper) notebook!
I stayed up late last night to browse the new Gymboree lines. There are a few cute outfits like this and this. Sadly Alan won’t need surf themed stuff for a while – I wish clothing was released closer to when you wear it.
This AM was bad though. Alan was cranky when I woke him up. Then we ended up being late due to Alan (and the fact I woke up with a bad sinus headache). Then I forgot my lunch in the car. And then just as I was crossing the street by my office, I tripped. I was ok (scrape on knee), but I ripped my pants (not like Sponge Bob though). I ripped them right across the leg, below the knee - not fixable. So I got another pair at lunch. No sympathy from Dress Barn where I originally bought and replaced the pants though with a totally different pair - so I e-mailed them to complain - for a small fall, they shouldn't have been so ripped up. Oddly enough, tonight's episode of Sponge Bob was the Ripped Pants episode!
Tonight I powered up the PC. Of course, like all "new" PC's it needed a million updates. I tried to look for a free network at home, no luck. Then I tried to get it to talk to our wireless network. No luck. Then I dug out the 50 foot ethernet cord I used to use with our original router and hooked it up - success. Kind of silly to have a 50 foot cord for a PC that's 6 feet from the router, but it works! It's all updated now and time for bed. I'm going to hate to give up the notebook but my SIL will be happy.
