Happy Halloween
Oct. 31st, 2007 09:33 amMorning on this beautiful Halloween day in NJ!
Alan was funny this AM - he didn't think it was Halloween (maybe because it wasn't being mentioned on Noggin). So he wouldn't wear his costume. Until he got to school and saw his classmates. So I put it on before I left. Even his teachers were in costumer - the teacher as a (good) witch and the aide as Dora! (sometimes it must be fun to teach preschool!).
Yesterday was the class trip to the pumpkin patch. Alan had fun. I got to ride on the bus with him - on the way there we sat with a girl Alan knew from soccer who was in the PM class. On the way back we sat with a boy Alan had been in class last year with. One of the other moms pointed out he had no socks on - and today this boy had no costume and was crying (I felt bad too.)
Apparently the boys family doesn't celebrate Halloween (he's African, I believe) and the teacher had an extra costume for him in class and let him wear it home - she's very prepared after many years of teaching.
Alan had been bugging me about pumpkin pie all month - since reading a Dora book about it. So I finally made it yesterday - found a simple recipie on the pumpkin pie spice container - pie crust, canned pumpkin, eggs, sweetended condensed milk, pumpkin pie spice (the one on the pumpkin can had more spices which I didn't want to buy). He helped mix it a bit. He ate a little of it when I gave him some, then didn't like it. I thought it was good, not as spicy as some I've had. We brought the rest to school for the halloween party since I'd be the only one eating it.
And today I'm wearing my old navy shirt with a black cat, halloween socks with black cats and black cat earings. I have a children's place scrunchy with candy corn in my hair (I thought it was cute, even if I'm a grownup!) I miss having Moxie and Inky (my black cats) though. I always used to JOKE about sticking them in the window with suction cups for decorations. I have even bought Halloween black cats over the years that I thought looked like one cat or the other.
Back to work for now.
