help!

I've had a long, long week testing software to be released frantically catching up after spending the last 2 weeks on the project from h*ll.

Anyway I managed to get some sort of migrane headache tonight. When I got home my DH complained his PC was acting weird. I installed Norton Antivirus and cleaned the junk out of his mouse as best as I could (it was dirty). I felt a little better and went to bed - the PC was working better and DH seemed to think things were ok.

I ended up getting woken up because DH was freaking out because the PC went nuts again and a very important spreadsheet which was not backed up (DH's fault) got overwritten. I don't know what happened but the version he had on the floppy and on the hard drive was overwritten. I totally lost it because I had a headache, was exhausted, and had no idea WHAT to do. It wasn't pretty :(

I got the floppy out of the drive before it got overwritten again figuring we have a better chance of recovering from that. But I have no idea how I can see if there are any earlier versions of this file. I am also mad that DH never backed it up to a CD or DVD (I lost some important mail files recently which weren't backed up and I need to re-implement my backups since I don't have Norton 360 anymore...sigh). Anyway does anyone have any idea what to do. this contains important data?

Update: Apparently DH saved to the floppy after the changes were overwritten. Not helpful. And his PC has just 1 drive...going to hook up my portable drive now

I have an excel data recovery program running to the portable drive on DH's PC. Hopefully it will find some earlier version of the file.

I do have a backup on my PC from August 2007.

Tommorrow's plans including buying DH a portable hard drive of his own and finding some sort of automatic backup program to set up on both machines.

I have 2 drives on mine - just about all my data is on 1 drive, but I need to add a backup for thunderbird to whatever software I use.

I'm going to crash shortly. I really hope DH learns a lesson.
