Still seeking one.

I've been interested in the I-River which a coworker had. Nice size and an FM radio to boot.
Now my cousin showed me his Neuros (www.neurosaudio.com) - that's got some neat features including a song ID function when the FM is playing.
I've thought an iPOD but they don't have FM radio. (I'd actually, strange as it seems, like AM radio also - I commute to NYC and if anything happens I'd want to hit the ALL NEWS stations here on AM ASAP!)
I'm not as interested in the FM transmitter function as I'd use it in the car plugged into the cassette deck (both our cars have them, neither has a CD player). This would replace hooking up a portable CD player in the car on longer trips.

Decisions, decisons.

I have 2 uses in mind for the mp3 player:

1) For commuting to/from NYC. This is what the FM radio would be for - in case of emergencies to information. I could also use it in the office if I wanted music.

2) In the car on long trips. The FM transmitter would be nice, but both of our cars have tape decks. I'd have no problem hooking up an adapter into the tape deck for travel, because the mp3 player is small enough to fit in the cup holders or console when we drive. Currently we've hooked up a walkman CD player - but that has to sit on the passenger floor - with the risk of skips, plus bringing CD's with us to change. (We've got 300-400 CD's, so we'd have a nice supply to convert to MP3's.)

(Most of our CD's are burned copies from our library system FYI, although there are about 40-50 that are bought.)

Random info - we got the 20 gb iPod. We burned our music to MP3 at higher than average sample rate - 128 or so if I remember right. We still fit close to half of our music on it...which is fine, means that the good stuff is on there. We have a similar sized music collection, 400-500 cds.

Be prepared for that conversion to take a while, though obviously the lower the sample rate, the faster it goes!
