We're gearing up in the Boston area for the Democratic national Convention, and the way this thing is being run, a rat wouldn't stand a chance here. For my part, I am staying away from Boston proper and limiting my travel that week.
NYC will be worse as you have anti-USA sentiment + anti-Bush sentiment.
There may be people in Mass who do not like Kerry but I think he and Edwards have less dislike than Bush. (Doctors do not like Edwards because he was a sucessful trial lawyer suing for malpractice)
Granted on the candidate (heck, *I* wouldn't mind taking a potshot!!)!!!
We're also a national security point, and that angle has just been played to death here in the media. We just got all the same anti-terrorist stuff for potential chemical attacks that was sent to you, and they are making no bones about preparing for the absolute worst scenario.
At the very least, some low-grade jackass will make a controlled ruckus that will allow everyone to pat themselves on the back for maintaining such tight security.

The convention itself will be BORING. I'm sure there will be a tribute to Regan. I bet the "minor" party conventions: Green, Libertarian etc are more interesting but less dangerous.
I said yes, but I doubt it'll be something serious. I think some group of stupid people will cause some sort of trouble and tie up traffic or close some building. They'll get everyone irritated, but no one will get hurt, unless it's the protestors themselves getting pepper sprayed!

(sorry, can't help it. conventions of any major party make me feel snarky!)
