It happens in threes

When I went to bed last night 2 celebrities had passed:

Sandra Dee (60's singer).  A little before my time, but she's immortalized in the song from Grease "Look At Me I'm Sandra Dee...."
John Raitt, father of Bonnie Raitt. I think I saw him on Broadway in Shenandoah (good musical) in the 1970's with my parents.

This AM, I found an e-mail in my in box about Hunter S. Thompson committing suicide. I'm actually surprised he was still alive.

I remember seeing Bill Murray in Where the Buffalo Roam doing Hunter S. Thompson. I know there is a movie with Johnny Depp of Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas, but I've not seen that. My ex was a big fan of Hunter S. Thompson and I read his copy of Fear and Loathing.

Still odd all 3 passed the same day - no real connection except for their careers being in the 1960's.

You're the second person whose LJ I read who has mentioned these three deaths today. I have to admit that I don't know who Hunter S Thompson was. I looked up his name on Google and didn't recognize the picture that came up.

Sandra Dee's story is especially sad. She was a huge star for a short while but then everything seemed to fall apart. Her look and personality just didn't fit the new mold in the mid to late 60s. I saw a picture of her from about 1997. She looked horrible then and she would have only been about 55. I had read that she was anorexic and an alcoholic for years. When you watch her old movies, she was so fresh-faced and healthy looking. I saw a lot of them when I was a teenager on cable. I thought the Tammy movies were pitiful, but really liked The Reluctant Debutante and A Summer Place.
