Where you when

Where was I
1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
I was 18 months old. I don't remember, but my parents said I complained about cartoons not being on.
2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
I was one day short of 18, a senior at Oceanside Sr. HS, but don't remember how I heard about this one.
3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
I was working at Wang, in Lowell, MA. I was coming back from a lunchtime aeobics class, heard something about a problem with the shuttle (I figured the launch was postponed again) Later (forget how) I heard the whole story, spent part of the day listening to a radio at work all about it.
4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
Don't remember.
6. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
I was in Staten Island living at my mother-in-laws house. My ex, his mom and I were working on setting up a put-it-together wardrobe closet when we heard this on the TV.
7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
I was in the basement apartment at my mother-in-laws house. I turned on the TV to see if I could see footage of the NY Rangers Stanley Cup Victory parade that I watched at lunch time that day (snuck out from work into a tiny space to see this.) Instead this came on!
8. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
Walking down Cortlandt Street on a lunch break from my job at 5 World Trade Center, I saw something about this on a TV in a window.
9. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
I was at a science fiction convention in the Adam's Mark Hotel in Philadelphia. A guy I was interested and I were headed up to the hotel room, when we saw something about a car crash on the bar's TV. We thought it was the local news. When we got back to the room, I think we turned on the TV. I remember Brian Williams talking about the crash and knowing from the way he talked it wasn't good.
10. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
No specific memory of this one. I remember watching the election the night before and hoping for a Gore win.
11. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
No specific memory
.
12. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
I was on Jury duty in Hackensack, NJ - not at my consulting assignment at 130 Liberty Street - across from the towers. Someone (I think from news on a pager) heard about flying a plane into the center. It was a very clear day and my first thoughts were who was so stupid to not avoid the towers (thinking it was a little plane).
