My employer had a free flu shot clinic scheduled for today.

At 5:02 PM they sent out an e-mail that it was cancelled since the administrating medical office didn't have them yet, and they were tenatively rescheduling for November 10th. My allergist wants me to get the flu shot every year. I had passed on shots being given at the local supermarket because of the free one being offered through work. I wasn't able to get one at all for myself or Alan last year due to the shortage.

So, this morning I called my doctor's to see what their availability of shots is:
Allergist - not yet
GP - not yet either
Alan's pediatrician - not yet, but Alan could get one unlike last year when it was restricted to under age 2.
Sloan Kettering (because of my thyca) - does have them, but this would be my last resort to get one, I suspect they'd rather the immune suppressed patients there get them.

Flu shots always make me crazy, but I really need to get them. I was able to get one at my GP's office this year, to my shock. Last year, I waited in line at a Happy Harry's. I got suspicious looks from the old people, and even from the people who gave out the paperwork. I don't think they believed that I had chronic renal failure.

Of course, Dave and Hannah haven't been able to get them yet, though Dave could have made his own appointment with the GP.

I called my pediatrician's office today. I'd received a reminder in the mail to have Olivia vaccinated since she is not yet 2 years old (won't be until February) since the 6 month to 23 month age group is considered to be a high risk group. She was able to get a flu shot last year..Wes was not because he was over 2. Anyways..so I have an appointment for Wesley on November 2nd for his 3 year checkup..so I figured I'd call and see if I could have Olivia get her flu shot on the same day. The woman informs me that they can't schedule a flu shot for her even though she's under 2 years old because 6-23 months old is no longer considered high risk..they have to have asthma or something too..WTF? She said that I can call closer to the date and see if they've received more vaccine and that if they have enough they might be able to do it..but they can't schedule it right now because they don't have enough and she's not considered high risk right now. It's nuts..6-23 months is supposed to be considered high risk..they shouldn't have to have asthma or something on top of their young age in order to be able to get the vaccine. I'm more than a little annoyed and I'm going to explore other options..see if there's somewhere else that will give it to her. Wesley and Bill and I all ended up with the flu last year. I had to take Wes to the ER because he was fading in and out of consciousness .. just waking up to retch and vomit..he couldn't stop vomiting..they had to give him a suppository to stop the retching reflex and he was finally able to get some sleep. Unfortunately, Bill and I ended up being wretchedly sick that whole night too..Bill told me yesterday that his workplace is offering a free flu shot this Thursday so he's going to get his there.
