Moxie and Inky's Vet Vist
Apr. 3rd, 2003 09:19 amMoxie and Inky are my cats (aka Alan's older siblings). I'm posting the details of their visit for those interested. I usually post this to my cat lists.
Last night I went to the vet for Moxie and Inky's annual checkup. While
there I was talking to one of the receptionists who had her cute 7 month
old daugher with her. It was interesting because at the last checkup I
was expecting Alan - so much changes in a year.
Moxie and Inky are both healthy. Moxie (14.5 yrs) weighs 12 3/4 lbs down
1/4 from last year. Inky (13 yrs) weighs 9 3/4 lbs up 1/4 from last year.
She shouldn't get any heavier, Moxie's weight is fine (he's about 1.5
times her size, a long cat). She needs brushing as she doesn't appear to
groom the rear of body as well anymore. Both need dentals and have 1 ear
each that will be cleaned during the dental. (Moxie's ear is worse than
Inky, but it's only a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10). They got their rabies and
distemper shots. I was offered the option of a distemper titer vs. the
shot, but decided the shot was a less expensive alternative. They do not
get FIP or Feline Leukemia shots. My vet doesn't recommend FIP shots and
they don't need Feline Leukemia shots at their ages.
The charges ran as follows:
Inky Office Visit, Exam 42.00
FVRCP annual 19.00
Rabies 1yr w/ex 20.00
Schem/CBC/T4 101.00 (pre-dental blood
work)
Moxie Office Visit, Exam 42.00
FRCVP annual 19.00
Rabies 1yr w/ex 20.00
Urinalysis Comp 38.50 (vet wanted
this at his age)
Medical Waste Fee 2.50 (syringe
disposal?)
Cystocentesis 10.00 (I think this
was getting the urine sample)
Schem/CBC/T4 101.00 (pre-dental blood
work)
Total 415.00!
Their dental is scheduled for next Friday. The vet thinks Moxie will need
them annually at his age and within the next 18 months he will lose one
front fang due to reabsorbtion. Inky will lose one during the dental as
it has cracked and lost its point :( (Is there a tooth fairy for cats?)

Date: 2003-04-03 12:41 pm (UTC)I used to take my cats in annually to get their teeth cleaned along with the usual checkups. It's as necessary to take care of animals' teeth as it is to take care of our kids' teeth.
