Friday night we get a call from my friend with twins that she’s up for company. So we decided to plan a visit to her on Saturday.

Saturday morning I had a mammogram at 7:45 Am. No big deal, take a Tylenol before hand and don’t use deodorant. I get there and didn’t have to wait long (unlike the hospital where I’d had the last 2 done). Surprisingly, they did them on film – but did develop them before I left (I always fear they won’t come out.) The results will go to my doctor and I guess I’ll get something in the mail. I’m not worried, I’m sure they have last year’s results with the spot they rechecked noticed in their files. The imaging place conviently had a basket of deoderant samples next to the machine - very convient to take one and use it on your way out!

Then I stopped by my MIL’s to get some more stuff for the twins. (Alan’s been clothing them and giving them lots of toys). And then after going to the library to return stuff and getting gas off we went. First we ate at Old Country Buffet (same as Hometown Buffet). Alan ate pretty well. He filled up on pickles and olives. He didn’t even finish all the cheesecake. (When he was little he’d devour it, then wipe his face on my sleeve). We then stopped briefly at Wal-Mart and then to visit. The two boys are 9 weeks old and cute. (They are fraternal twins and don’t look a like). Alan didn’t seem to care much for them though. When we got there one was having tummy time, Alan stared for a bit, but preferred that he be the center of attention and basically ignored them while we were there even if they cried. I think he did notice a lot of his old toys (including his pack and play) were there. Sitting on the couch I had one propped on my chest for a bit (boy was he kicking and flailing his arms!). It was nice to have a little one to snuggle, but I didn’t have an urge to have another. I can’t even remember Alan being that small, yet I remembered the clothes the twins were wearing (Alan’s old ones). So I think for now, I’ve accepted Alan as an only child (although I still would like a little girl in my life, but she doesn’t have to be mine – a friends daughter will do – the friends who have had children in the past 3 years all had boys.)

On the way back we stopped at Wegmans, where Alan discovered he could push a shopping cart. He was pretty good at it, except he didn’t want to stop so we could look.

Sunday morning I had a dentist appointment. I had a piece break off a tooth, so I need to have a filling (hopefully not a root canal) done in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I don’t brush very well, so my mouth was icky. It still hurts in one chronic spot today – I think it’s a gum thing, so if I keep brushing properly it will heal. I had digital xrays (which I think is neat). A friend referred me to this dentist, so I had heard he was selling his house and moving to an over 55 community in Wanaque (I love the name of that town!) I talked to his wife, the receptionist about it – nice house, but too pricey for us. (If you have to share a doctor with a friend, a dentist is a good one – usually a dental visit isn’t a confidental or an embarrassing thing – and if you get a filling, other probably see it anyway.)

Later we went to my SIL’s with my MIL. Alan devoured some raisin bread there – he had 3 pieces. He was just content to hang out on her bed with the bedrest and watch videos while Mark took care of some financial stuff like taxes (which for the most part is done what a relief).

Yesterday, I planned to take off to get to my psy. doctor. But Alan ended up having a fever Sunday night, so I took him to the doctor in the morning. Just a cold, although he had a lot of earwax in one ear. The doctor cleaned it. (It reminded me of my cat Moxie who used to get a lot of wax – but my husband said he used to get a lot also.). Alan did fine at my doctor's visit - except he was playing under the front of the doctor's desk - and managed twice to sit up so abruptly that he banged the lip of the desk. I moved his toys to the side after that. (Note - bringing hot wheels and thomas trains makes appointments go smoothly!)

We both ended up taking a long nap in the afternoon, we needed it.

I also discovered Alan likes coloring more now. We got a Thomas coloring book and he will scribble in it. He doesn’t yet get to use more than 1 color or do in the lines – but he used to make 1 mark and skip to the next page – so I’m pleased. I have lots of coloring books from freebies or gifts for him to use.

I got my Naartjie order this Am at work. Really nice and colorful. Hope it fits Alan. I hate getting summer stuff in March that won’t be worn till June. I need to order a lot of shoes from Lands End today as they have a lot of clearance in size 6 WIDE for me. At least if that doesn’t fit, I can take it to Sears.

I also loaned my boss my breast pump (hers has been through 3 children and she could use a backup). It had been with my friend with twins (who did try and use it and nurse for 10 days, I was proud she did that). It’s probably the oddest thing someone’s loaned/given their boss – no, it won’t get me a raise!

Back to work, rats!

That's very curious...why no DO? I haven't had a mammogram, but I did recently have to have a chest X-Ray and they made no mention of deodorant.

Little boys are bruise magnets, it seems. Universal truth.

Chest X-rays look at different tissue than a mamogram. Also they are looking toward the lymph nodes in the underarm area - I guess the chemicals in deoderant mess it up somehow.

(That's why it's nice to do it first thing in the AM!)

I echo the question about why no deodorant...never heard that one before. My company is having something called the "Mammovan" on campus next week and I'm thinking of getting my first one done there -- I just turned 35 and my GYN gave me a referral during my last appointment...which I, of course, can't find now, so if I use the van I don't think I'll have to embarrass myself by calling for another referral.

I think it has something to do with the chemicals in the deoderant showing up on the xray - especially since they look in the part of the breast toward the under arms.

I had my first one at 35. Seems long ago :(

I've always been told not to wear deodorant or body powder for a mammogram. The machine gets up close and personal with your upper body, and they don't want those substances to build up on the machine. Plus, the next patient may be allergic to your favorite products, even if the machine got wiped down between patients.
