Alan (age 3) has:

1 pair LL bean suede slip ons - black size 11
1 worn pair of Mossimo sneakers (need to replace) size 11
1 pair dressy elephantene sandals (forget the size)
1 pair TCP cork sandals (size 12, a little big)
1 pair flip flops - size 10/11 from Dollar Tree, he doesn't seme to like them.
1 pair fleece lined slippers (size 11/12)
1 pair rainboots (size 10, but seem big)
(He has a few other pairs, but they no longer fit or aren't needed like snow boots)

I'd like to replace the sneakers and get a pair of water sandals for play. He has a high arch like me, so shoes with zippers to close them don't work. And he HATES to try on shoes!

We are going to an old fashioned full service shoe store tommorrow to see what I can find for sneakers.

I'm not one of those who collects shoes. I'm hard to fit myself - I have a wide foot with a high arch. I also don't like high or dainty looking heels as I cant' walk in them. I'm guessing I have around 12-15 total pairs myself including stuff I don't wear. I've been switching off all winter between my 2 pair of LL bean mocs (one slide and one moc - the same as Alan's but in women's size 6). Still haven't figured out what I'll wear in the summer - LL Bean doesn't really make a work-wearable shoe in 6 wide in the comfort mocs.

I'm hard to fit, too. I have a long (9, nearly 9 1/2 now and will be there soon), narrow foot with no arches to speak of, which means I need major arch support. The fact that my feet keep growing in length and are expected to do so for the rest of my life, due to a family peculiarity, means I'll continue to be hard to fit. Many shoe stores sell only mediums. Not all mediums fit me; my narrow heel and ankle means that shoes slip around, especially in the back.

Arrrrrgh! I used to be a 7 1/2, 20 years ago. Two years ago I was a 9.

My ex MIL was a 9 1/2, it's a hard size to find - I usually see 9 and 10 not 9.5.

Never heard of anyone's feet still growing? Mine got a little bigger during pregnancy but seemed to have shrunk back lately?

It's a peculiarity in my maternal line. My mother's feet are still growing longer and she'll be 72 next month.

I swear...I think I spend less on the one pair of Stride Rite shoes I buy for my kids in any given size than other people spend on the hordes of shoes they by their kids. There's nothing like a shoe that's fitted by a professional. Nothing.

That seems very reasonable. I'd get Alan a minium of 2 pairs of shoes always because I've heard it was a good idea to rotate and let a shoe air out.

I figure they air out overnight. Heather and Evan each have a pair of "dress shoes" in the winter, but in the summer, I just get them rubber soled athletic sandles...and they serve as dress and play shoes.

The Bee has extra wide feet (Stride Rite 6Xwide) and I long ago gave up on all the cute little Robeez and the like! *sniff* so many shoes, none of them normally in EXtra wide!!!

I'm such a shoe-a-holic! Now I'm wanting to post my shoe list, but that would be a whole book! For some reason, I just cant ever get enough shoes. I have about 50 pairs that I can't fit anymore because of the foot growth from being pregnant the first time. I went from 7.5 to 8.5. Hopefully they dont grow anymore! Since then, I've bought about 15 pairs with my new size.

Alie has about 20 pairs now. I dont like shoes to get torn up or dirty looking, so with her having so many, they stay nice. I know it's kind of a waste, but it's my one indulgence :) She grew into a size 7 (well with a thumb size room for growth) around December, hopefully she wont have another foot growth spurt until the fall. I'd really hate to have to buy all new sandals right after I just bought some.
