Finally getting a chance to recap a busy weekend.

Thursday night - ordered new glasses. Alan and Mark came along but used the train table in Barnes and Nobel to keep busy. It was hard to get Alan to leave. I was happy to find inexpensive glasses - I look in the cheapest frame bin usually - and the new tiny glasses don't work for me with my undereye circles anyway.

Friday - Alan and I had the day off. First we went and got shoes as I posted earlier. Then we went to Target and I got a birthday party gift for a party next week and returned shoes. Then since it wasn't a nice day, we went to Paramus Park mall which is somewhat child friendly - they have a lego play area. Alan of course loved Thomas World (a store that basically sells everything Thomas..not a fancy store, just almost everything that is made) It isn't child friendly - they have a 1 train table (they used to have 2) and just ONE train on it. I guess they don't want kids there all day. I got Alan to go to some stores - I got him a bouncy ball for 25 cents at Old Navy from their bouncy ball machine (like a giant gumball machine). We had chick-a-filla for lunch as the line was shorter than McDonalds. Came home, Alan didn't nap - then I went to Shoprite for stuff when Mark came home and then my MIL and SIL came over and we had Chinese.

Saturday - we decided to go for a hike up Ramapo Reservation. Since we didn't start out to do that (we were going to the flea market), I wasn't wearing hiking boots nor was Alan - we just had old sneakers. But we did it - made to the reservoir. Alan loved it - I just carried him across a small stream with a rock bridge so he would get his feet soaked (but we each got 1 foot wet anyway on the return trip). I wish I had brought a camera - someone was hiking down as we came up - walking a cat on a harness. The cat was named Skye and was friendly (a white cat with brown tabby marking on the face and tail). Her owner also had a carry pouch for her (like a infant carrier). She seemed to like it.
We also saw several dogs and some people with babies in carriers as we went up and down. Then we took a scenic drive and wound up at Olive Garden (not the busy one). We got right in - no wait. Alan did ok, until he was done, then we waited in the car for Mark to finish and pay. He fell asleep on the way home for all of 5 minutes - and didn't nap again at home. Then after dinner, we went to the nearby playground. There was a boy of about 6 who was a ringleader and Alan interacted with him and the other children more than I'd ever seen him.

Sunday - got up, tried to go to Shoprite for this week's sales -they were closed - so I got a coffee at Dunkin Donuts and went home. We then had our friend Linda and her son Jeff (his dad had to work at Home Depot on Easter Sunday, bleh) come over - we had Wendy's for lunch and then to Van Saun park for the playground and the zoo. Alan loves the playground - but he was a bit wild running from area to area - we then went to the zoo - Alan just ran around, he doesn't like to look. The animals seemed to be enjoying the nice day (the ones that were out for the season). I spotted someone eating a banna near the monkey cage which was sort of funny.

There is a large Orthodox Jewish population in our area - even though it was Passover (and many brought their own food) they came out to go to the zoo and park. A lot of them would dress their kids alike which was cute. I did see one child who was somewhat confused on the holiday - he/she (I forget which) had on a xmas turtleneck with reindeer and xmas trees!

We came home and found that Pathmark (supermarket) was open till 4, we got there 3:45. Got a few items since we'd gotten one of those carts with a truck on it and Alan loved it - then headed home. This time we got Alan to nap. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful though.

And today I was back at work.

I didn't realize this until we moved into an Orthodox Jewish community, but apparently the four intermediate days (between the first two and the last two, during which it's forbidden to drive, etc.) of Passover are popular for sightseeing. There were many Chasidim in midtown Manhattan last night!

That sounds like a wonderful hike! I wish you'd had a camera too because I'd chuckle at a picture of that cat. :-)
