Stayed home today as I didn't sleep much last night. I seem to have gotten a cold. I couldn't nap, so I did some stuff that I needed to do childfree - lots of wash (have clean sheets now), cleaned the floor of my closet - dropped off my box storage at the cleaners (does anyone else do this - I find I need the room - although I have too many sweaters I think - some were handed down to me this year by MIL and SIL).

Found out the cleaners/laundromat I use (when I don't use the condo laundry) is closing. (I had gone to the other one as this one didn't do box storage ever). Kind of weird to see a landromat closing. There are 2-3 others in town, less convient though and some may not be good for night time washing :(

I got Alan Sudafed today at Shoprite. It's now locked up behind the phamracy counter as is all the other decongestant stuff. The pharmacist knew me (I've been using that pharamacy since 1999) so she didn't ask for ID - I joked around that I didn't know what to do with it anyway other than its intended purpose (I wouldn't joke at where I didn't know the pharmacist though.) I suspect most cold/allergy stuff will wind up being reformulated as some people won't be able to get it if it's locked up in the pharmacy (because its closed when you need it, or they forget their ID) and sales (to honest people) will go down.

Alan and Mark are watching Maisy Mouse on DVD. He's developed a liking for Maisy and Miffy on Noggin. I'm glad we got digital cable now so we get that channel - I just wish it didn't sign off at 6PM. Hopefully, I'll hook the 2 DVD's players back up soon and we can watch other than on the PC's.

By the way, Mark has signed up for Blockbuster's version of Netflix. Super speedy service - not sure if they've learned from Netflix or if there is just less demand for Mark's preferred rentals (concert DVD's).

At least my MP3 player came back today (it wasn't broken, they said?). And I caught the UPS driver and gave him the Magnetix stuff I'm sending back to Roseart due to the recall. (Problems with children under 3 swallowing the magnets led to the voluntary recall, I do think Roseart kind of wheezled a bit making it a volunatary recall and not offering great stuff for the return - I'd rather have a certificate for other Roseart stuff (like art stuff) than mega blocks or spiderman play sets.)

Tommorrow night I have a college night where I represent my alma matter. I haven't been to this area high school yet (Paramus), but I've passed it a zillion times, so it will be easy.

I also got Alan's weekly folder from the school district today. They send all the kids (pre-k through 8th grade) everything. He misses next year's soccer signup though by 15 days (cutoff 9/30/02). I was surprised that's it's cheap - 25.00! They also had school spirit stuff being sold as a PTA fundraiser. I'll probably get him (and me) t-shirts.

Anyway, Alan needs a bath soon and I need an early bedtime.

Tommorrow night I have a college fair at a local high school represen

Buying the meds behind the counter is weird. I have to get claritin D from behind the counter. Oh and Tylenol PM. Sucks when you have some insomnia going on, out of Ty PM, run to walmart and realize you need the pharmacy open to get some so you can sleep! Oh well....

There *is* a different kind of non-drowsy decongestant out there -- can't remember the chemical name offhand, but it might be in my LJ in the March 9-11 time frame. I found around then that the new decongestant is much less effective (at least with my body chemistry) than Sudafed. Blergh.

I know it's a law. But's so weird to sign your life away to get cold medicine.

My husband and I used to take the generic actifed. We'd discovered lately that walmart's generic one must have been reformulated so that we could get it off the shelf. Unfortunately Wal-mart isn't so convient to us (and this was for Alan anyway).

Roseart are being absolute pains over here in the UK. I tok David's Magnetix set (which he adores, sigh) back to John Lewis (http://www.johnlewis.com) and they said they hadn't heard of any recall. When I showed then the web article - to their credit - the supervisor came over and gave me vouchers even though I no longer had the receipt and the product had been opened. Excellent Customer Service.

I gave them my name and number as I wanted to know how they got on with the Roseart. When I spoke with JL yesterday they said they have now taken back over 30 sets but Roseart's local distributor still wasn't returning their calls.

Another thing I think is really piss poor is the way they've 'announced this' on their website (http://www.roseart.com). OK so there is something on the frontpage but it makes no mention of the potential dangers.

Sigh!

When it first came out, they were so unprepared - I ended up calling MegaBlocks (the parent company) which is in Canada. Roseart is local to us in NJ, and this is really going to give them a bad image.
