lesliepearThe car needs these 3 parts - ignition cylender, housing and switch. I got the info from the dealer, had him close the ticket and left it very nicely - apparently when I brought the car in November I didn't mention the key being hard to turn which is why they opened the housing up. I still have till October on the original warantee and it could be possible that other things might need attention so I didn't want to p*ss off the service department which has generally been helpful.
Hopefully these parts can be gotten cheaply or even in a junkyard. Cars that wind up in a junkyard usually aren't there for broken ignitions - even if they are totalled. (I had a good experience getting a interior door handle for my escort from a junkyard.)
Oddly enough, I think my old mechanic still has my Escort. When I go by him on the bus, I see the roof of a car in his parking lot that looks like it - I can't get close enough to confirm it.
