Wow! There are only 3 things on that list that I don't know for sure whether Korben can do. That's suprising.

Alan's a bit further behind, but it's good to use it as a checklist for me.

I want to watch him over the next year to see if he could be eligible for kindergarden in 2007 (he's 2 weeks after the cutoff) - probably he won't though.

yeah same for Maylie. she can't write her name (her hand-eye coordination is pretty bad, so we practice tracing letters a lot), and she still can't really hop. She's not particularly physically coordinated. She's very much a book learner though, and is a real academic. Her singing also reminds me of the American Idol rejects. She thinks she sings beautifully and adds her own stuff to songs but she's so off key it's funny. The "baa baa black sheep" 20 times in a row in the car gets a bit annoying though. ;-)

It's really weird how my 2 are total opposites. Greg can sort of sing, and even at like 12 mos old you could tell what song he was babbling from the tones and the rhythm. He's also really physically coordinated. Too bad he's such a pain in the ass kid to deal with. And you have no idea what he knows until all of a sudden he does weird stuff like point to a B and say "b!!" or sign "star" all of a sudden when you tried teaching it to him months ago and he didn't seem to catch onto it. Maylie was always so easy to quiz her on what she knew.

Oh, thanks for posting this! This is actually more useful than the paperwork I got at the orientation for Benjamin's registration. That was mostly forms to fill out rather than real information.

Someone shared it on another board I'm on. I think it is the critera for one specific district, but I suspect most US schools would be similar.

Is your kindergarten the first year of primary school or is it like our kindergarten and is a completely seperate pre-school year?

H will be old enough to start prep (first year of primary school) in February 2007, but I am debating keeping him back a year as he is pretty close to the age cut off.

It's something in between. It's the first year that they offer public school. But kindergarten isn't compulsory. So if you instead wait a year when your kid would have been in kindergarten they can start directly into first grade. But kindergarten gets the kid used to how schools work and prepares them for first grade.

I think kindergarden is a seperate year. The year before (age 4) is pre-k - I think it's junior kindergarden in some other places.
