I'm here, which is a good thing.

Regarding the whole BF controvery - I never had a BF icon. My only preferences on icons is that they be work safe, but in LJ icon size you can't see much anyway.

My work has started tightening the proxy server. Unfortunately I can no longer view www.naartjie.com because it is hosted on homestead.com. Naartjie is South African kids clothing, not related to my work, but not offensive either. Surprisingly I can view anything else like Gap, Gymboree, eBay, etc. Oh well. (Note - this is posted from home)

Yesterday my husband wore my pants to work (a pair of beige chinos). He noticed because the pockets were too small for all his junk! It wasn't a good day for him because he also got to work 1.5 hours late due to a car fire on his commute (not his car). He didn't notice I'd washed his car and left him an air freshner though :(

Yesterday Google.com contacted me at work out of the blue. I doubt there is anything for me, but if anyone needs the contact info, I saved it. [livejournal.com profile] cjsmith, I forwarded it to you.

Also, speaking of out of the blue, Sunday night - Hilary, the aide who take care of my late grandmother called. She was very nice and did a good job (she'd also been her neighbors nanny). I wonder if she was job hunting, that I couldn't help with though.

And last night I was reading an old Little Golden Book called "Tootle". We'd gotten it from my cousin. It was written in 1945 - the language was funny - it had references to "gay" and "queer" and in the original sense - not related to homosexuality. It would probably be banned as politicially incorrect in 2006!

I just don't get the fuss. LJ basically asked that default icons be work safe, the communities over-reacted and many became obnoxious with the icons. They can say breastfeeding is natural and should be worksafe all they want - but since they aren't my boss I don't think they have the "right" to possibly get myself or other people in trouble with their employers because they just can't stand to NOT have a nipple showing in their BF icon.

I'm kinda coming in on the tail end of this whole drama about the bf icons.. so let me get this straight..

the default icon can't be a bf icon, but if you are making comments, you are still allowed to use a bf icon, that isn't your default, one that you switch to, in comments or in posts?

Are they saying also that no nudity is allowed in the default icons, or are they just singling out bf icons?

I'll put my bf icon for you to see.. :) I think it's very pretty! I personaly wouldn't want to take a picture of myself nipple and all for everyone to see on the internets.. but that's just me.

Nice icon - and most breastfeeding icons ARE tastefully done. I like the artistic touch. Like you, I have no desire for the internet to see my breasts :P However, a few icons, and I've seen more of them since this issue came up, aren't very discreet. I am definately a breastfeeding advocate, I still comfort nurse my 18 month old daughter and did the same well past a year with my son.

From what I glean, LJ originally asked for default icons not to portray anything sexually explicit or graphically violent. A question recently arose about a breastfeeding icon, and they clarified their official position that default icons shouldn't portray nudity or graphic violence. Non-default icons...whatever. And it seems to have escalated from there.

So why don't the BFing people just make a nice bland default icon and then never use it? Just pick the BF icon they want whenever they post. Clicking a drop down isn't rocket science!

Thanks for the clarification.. :) As long as it's a blanket 'no nudity or violence' statement then I think that the boob nazi's need to get the stick out of their collective arses and calm down. It's not a personal attack on them at all. it is what it is and they need to deal with it.

I miss my friends who deleted today. But I wouldn't do it myself. I couldn't stand being away from LJ for even one day.

Gabriel got a set of classic Little Golden Books a couple of years ago, and Tootle was one of them. I remember liking the story as a kid, but when I read it as an adult, I was somewhat appalled.

Basically, the moral of the story is to do what you're told and to be satisfied with your lot in life. Don't wish for anything better or aspire to something greater, because the community will beat you down. Geez.

Alan saw it as a train story so he got excited but was so so on the book itself. I may pass it on at some point, it was a hand me down to me.
