Regressing in technology....

My fancy new Nokia 6101 camera phone fell into a puddle at the company picnic. Alas, Nokia considered it water damage and wasn't covering it under warantee. I didn't want to spend 100.00 for a repair, so they will send it back.

So I dug back out the Nokia 3390 that it replaced. I got a new battery for it as I'd replaced the phone due to it losing charge a lot. And it works now. I just have to replace my car charger as I'd trashed it. Feels weird to roll back to a less fancy phone, but it does work. Sometimes old reliable is better than the latest and greatest.

But I still need to upgrade my Olympus digital camera.

This kind of hits on one of my gripes with the way cellphones are going. I just want a phone. I don't want a camera, I don't want a PDA, I don't want a hand-held computer, I don't want a personal assistant, I don't want it to walk my dogs, I want a phone. And I want it to be *damned good* at being just a phone. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how many bells and whistles the thing has if it can't reliably handle phone calls.

My current phone is a Samsung SCH-a650. Its just a phone. And it does a damned good job. I like it so much I've thought about buying one or two more off of eBay just to have around as spares so I don't have to *cough* upgrade *cough* if something happens to this one.

Sucks that they have that color water sensor on the inside and they can claim it voids any warranty if it's changed color. I had a broken cell phone that I took into Verizon and they said "nope! no phone for you!" because the white water detector was red. But the thing of it is... the person the phone belonged to said it hadn't been dropped in a puddle or anything. He thinks it may have come in contact with some sweat from wearing it while jogging but that's about it. grrr.
