Catching up

Had to work this morning (short one vacation day). Walked through Times Square – things being set up for New Year’s Eve. There was a crowd by Good Morning America, apparently the cast of High School Musical was visiting.
Christmas day Alan got a few toys. Because he slept in the living room, I didn’t get to put the toys out under the tree. But everything was a hit (the trains, hot wheel (meant for the stocking) and the games). Mark didn’t like the coat I got him – too thin. So I said I’d look for another one this week. Alas, Mark wears a size medium and pickings were slim. My present was my camera – the case finally came the day after Christmas. We didn’t do much as Mark had a cold. We tried to order Chinese, but our usual place was out of beans so we couldn’t have chicken and string beans as usual. So we ate Trader Joe’s pot roast.
Tuesday was my shopping day. I was trying to use some gift cards I had (Borders, Macy’s, Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdale’s) which were left over from various reasons – gifts, returns and the Bloomingdale’s had been my gift to my late grandmother for her last birthday. Alan went to daycare and I went to Target, found some holiday stuff @ ½ off and some luggage for Alan for Florida. Then I went to the mall (Riverside Square) with Bloomingdale’s and Gymboree. I didn’t see anything for me in Bloomingdale’s, but did find some clothes for Alan for next year in the limited selection there. Got some summer stuff cheap @ Gymboree for Alan.
The next stop was the big mall (Garden State Plaza). I had watches to fix at the watch repair place. It turned out 4 out of 7 battery ones were under warrantee, but the windup ones weren’t fixable. (I’d cleaned out all the watches in my jewelry box). I’ll take the windup ones to the city and get a second opinion. I also hit Janeville (which sadly is closing), Macy’s (got a purse and chanced on some jeans) and Old Navy. I also got a cute baby gift for a coworker at Janie and Jack.
Afterwards I rushed to the photo place to get Mark’s photos for work, and then I was late for my 4:30 medicine check appointment – due to mall traffic. Ooops – it was at 4. Didn’t like the fill in doctor, so just got a refill, will discuss medicine issues (lack of focus, eating too much) with doctor when he returns.
Wednesday, I took Alan to the children’s museum. First we stopped at Trader Joe’s – where Alan liked salami on crackers– a nice surprise. Alan had fun at the museum – he didn’t just play with trains – he played in the kitchen and shopping area also. Sadly, the museum’s electric train exhibit needs work – I mentioned the 2 train clubs in the area to the staff, maybe they can find a helper there. After that we went to The Fireplace for hamburgers. Then Alan was very tired. So I took a long drive – dropped videos at Blockbuster and went to the further away larger Walmart. He fell asleep on the way. Found a cute purple polo for Alan @ Walmart. (I like purple for boys.). No coats though. Later after dinner – I returned one item to Target and checked Sears for coats. Not much in size medium alas.
Yesterday was a day of little annoyances. First the cleaner/laundry said it would take till 7 to do my drop off (a bag of sheets/blankets) and 3 large comforters. Wanted it done before Mark came home. Then we went for a haircut for Alan. That went well, then we went to Panera next door for a snack, Discovered he’d had an accident, so I put his wet underware in the zip pouch that came with the diaper bag. By the time I got home later that day, I discovered it was gone. Land’s End will replace the pouch, but I hate losing stuff. We went to Kohls after that – no coats I was sure about, but got Alan a Thomas shirt in the next size (his shrunk). Next stop was Gymboree in Englewood – it’s not in a mall and I’d heard they had a lot of clearance because NO one goes there. It did have some good deals. Alas I have 2 items I changed my mind about I’ll have to resell or return at some point. Then we went to Kids Kingdom. It wasn’t a bad play space – FunTime Junction is nicer but this is much better and bigger than our Chuck E Cheese.
Later I had to go out to get my laundry, a prescription, drop off/return library stuff and Chinese for dinner. I also did some laundry. I washed the new jeans I got (which fit very nicely) only to find that almost all the beads on the back pocket fell off. I’m going to return them, that shouldn’t happen. And all 3 of us did a video store run – got some videos for Alan and hit A&P. (We are stopping the terrific Blockbuster total access program for a while as we need a break).
So that’s been my week! Despite the running around I think Alan and I had a good time doing stuff.
